I shall take up principles regarding
vimshottari dasa
system which are frequently being used byastrologers for tim
ing important events of life. According to
parasari s y s t e m , a n a t u r a l b e n e f i c , a s o w n e r o f a n a n g l e , i s
n o t auspicious whereas a natural malefic is capable of producing
goodr e s u l t s . T h i s d i c h o t o m y b e t w e e n n a t u r a l b e n e f i c s a n d n a t u r a l mal
efics fails to retain much of its significance because a
planet’sa u s p i c i o u s n e s s d e p e n d s v e r y m u c h o n i t s o w n e r s h i p o f h o u s e s a n d i t s
relationship with the ascendant lord. Hence,
maleficiencya n d b e n e f i c i e n c y o f a p l a n e t d i f f e r f r o m
lagna to lagna a n d i t predominantly gives results during its
dasa antardasas

1.A planet shall give the results of the house it owns. For example, if a planet if fifth lord,

planet is capable of giving results as per its functional or natural significations either in the
dasaor antardasa or smaller periods. The functional significations are based on the lordship, placementand
yogas this planet would have in the horoscope. The natural signification is based on what theysignify naturally
such as Venus signify marriage and relationship, Jupiter signify progeny etc.4 . N o r m a l l y a p l a n e t w o u l d
n o t c o n f e r t h e r e s u l t ( e i t h e r a u s p i c i o u s o r i n a u s p i c i o u s ) i n i t s o w n antardasa. They do
so in the antardasa of the planet associated with it. By association followingthings are
