PRESENT SIMPLE and PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Present simple
Use - facts/ general truths (sự thật hiển nhiên)
The sun rises in the East.
Dogs have 4 legs.
- habits (thói quen)/action we do regularly
I go to school by bus every day.
My mother always cooks dinner for us.
- permanent state: trạng thái kéo dài
They live in a big house in Hanoi.
- state verbs: love, like, hate, understand, remember,
want, need,..
Form (+) S + is/am/are ….
S + V(s/es)
(-) S + don’t/doesn’t + V-nguyên dạng
(?) Does/Do + S + V- nguyên dạng
Lỗi sai thường gặp:
(1) S + is/am/are (not) + Verb.
Present continuous
- Temporary situation (tình huống đang diễn ra)
We are watching TV now.
She is listening to music at the moment.
- Complaints (phàn nàn) (với always và never)
You are always forgetting to lock the door.
He is never tidying up his room.
(*): always là trạng từ tần suất, chỉ dùng ở thì hiện tại tiếp diễn khi biết rõ
tình huống và thái độ phê phán, phàn nàn của người nói
- future arrangements (sắp đặt tương lai) đi kèm giờ giấc thời gian cụ thể
He is playing football with his friends at 4:00 PM tomorrow.
- Changing situation (các thay đổi đang diễn ra)
The city is getting more polluted.
You are getting taller.
- Không dùng với stave verbs
(+) S + is/am/are + V-ing
(-) S + is/am/are not + V-ing.
(?) Is/Am/Are + S + V-ing?
 Ví dụ:
She isn’t go to school on Sundays. -> She doesn’t go to school on Monday.
He is play games with his friends in his room every Sunday. -> He plays games ….
(2) S + (not) + V-ing.
Ví dụ:
He playing games with his friends in his room at the moment. -> He is playing….
They not visiting their grandparents at 10 AM tomorrow. -> They are not …..
(3) Is/Am/Are + S + Verb
Ví dụ:
Is he go to the cinema with his brother now? -> Is he going to….
