NOTES DESIGN
Appearance and Identity

Whilst the ‘branding’ of Under the Flyover is not a priority


for the scheme, it is important that it has a sense of identity
that builds upon its unique use of containers and simple,
robust materials. It offers something different from the rest
of the city centre and introducing the use of graphics and
colour makes a bold, statement that this is a chance to
deliberately contrast from the adjacent architecture.

We propose a simple two tone colour scheme across the


site. The base colour will be dark grey with a secondary
highlight of red, which is reference to the traditional use of
red brick within the city. Text and signage will be white for
high visual contrast.

The linear nature of the containers and the graphic style is


linked to the use of graphics on the ground plane so that
there is a common approach to the secondary application
of colour and shape.

Assuming a lead role in the design development


and realisation of a new £500,000 private
residential dwelling from conception to its
current status on-site. My responsibilities include
liaising with the client and understanding their
requirements to develop the outline scheme
design through to detailed design for planning
approval. Technical and production information
for tender and construction have been produced
using BIM software (ArchiCAD 14). Currently
on-site I take an active role in liaising with
the client and construction team on a regular
basis to ensure the design concept is realised.
Additional responsibilities include the direct
involvement in overseeing and participating in
the contract administration responsibilities on
this Traditionally procured project.

of the competition winning concept design
proposals for a £3.6M part refurbishment and
part new build addition to a Family Centre
that provides temporary accommodation
for disadvantaged families and individuals.
Since the successful commission I have
been responsible for developing the concept
design into detailed proposals for planning
approval and tender purposes, liaising with the
planning and conservation department, specialist
consultants and suppliers to ensure that the design
concept is maintained and achievable on-site.
Currently in construction I continue to provide
design and technical input as part of a team of

Assuming a lead design role on a high profile


£4M community building which forms an integral
part of a wider master plan (by others) in
delivering a new district centre for the Hattersley
estate. I was heavily and actively engaged in
numerous public consultation events with local
residents including the various end user groups
to ensure that their needs and requirements
are incorporated into the proposals. I have
competently led this project from RIBA work
stage A through to its start on-site in September
2011, with completion due in Autumn 2012.
Currently on-site I continue to provide a lead
design and technical role as part of a team
during construction to ensure the design
concepts are realised.
