SOFTWARE OVERVIEW
"РМ1405 Software" software (further – software) developed by the Polimaster company,
enables operational control over radiation situation and output on the PC display of the data
read in the real time mode by detector of the connected instrument.
Software is installed on the personal computer (further – PC) and intended for use with the
Polimaster-manufactured instruments of the PM1405 (further – instrument).
Attention! Using the software with any other instruments can lead to unpredictable results.
The instrument is connected to a PC by means of an USB cable (mini USB-USB cable type).
The instrument and PC communicate by means of USB interface.

intuitive user interface of the "РМ1405 Software" is designed for the wide range of
specialists as well as for the customers, without expertise and pretraining, for:
1. Providing personal safety while working with ionizing radiation sources when
carrying out researches;
2. Providing personal safety of personnel by means of constant dose and dose rate
control, and instant alarm if there is personal radiation hazard;
3. Early warning of possible radiation contamination or terrorist attack.
SOFTWARE ENABLES:
1. Reading out events information (further – instrument history) from the instrument’s
non-volatile memory;
2. Conducting on-line real time measurement and displaying the results in digital mode;
3. Read/record operation settings of the connected instrument:
• DE and DER threshold values;
• History saving/recording interval;
• Measurement units;
• Enable/disable different alarm types.
4. Save measurement history on PC (history export);

SOFTWARE/INSTRUMENT SETTINGS
Do all required software/instrument settings before starting software operation.
In this section we will examine different configurations of instrument and program settings,

as well as more detailed describe some of the menu items and toolbar functions.
Interface language
This software allows switching between the Russian and English languages. Default
software interface language is English.
To switch to another language it is necessary to select the Language item of the Help menu
and change the language.
Thresholds Setting
Software enables continuous monitoring over two thresholds within the whole DER
indication range during gamma radiation measurement, over two thresholds during beta
radiation measurement, two thresholds within the whole DE indication range, as well as one
threshold in the search mode.
Instrument will indicate an alarm (red LED blinking and sound alarm) when any set threshold
is exceeded.
____________________________________________________________________________________21
© 2013 User Guide www.polimaster.com
Thresholds can be set with the help of the “Thresholds” tab of the toolbar. Using the
adjustment buttons one can choose the needed value of the threshold and press the
Apply button in the main program window to save the settings changes and then confirm
the action by clicking “Yes” in the dialog box.
The changed value will be highlighted in bold. After pressing the Apply button
configuration reading is carried out and changed threshold value will be saved.
Attention!
Set DER “Danger” value must be higher than DER “Attention” value.
Otherwise the DER “Danger” value will be reset during the process of
settings recording into the instrument.
Reset Statistics
User has the possibility to reset statistics using the Reset Statistics item of the Action tab of
the Program tool bar or Reset Statistics button of the Device status tab.
____________________________________________________________________________________22
© 2013 User Guide www.polimaster.com
Statistics reset enables resetting of gamma-background measurement data buffer
accumulated by the instrument. The instrument uses these data for averaging. Resetting is
required when:
• doing successive measurements at slowly changing gamma-background;
• gamma-background has changed a little.
Otherwise the statistics reset is done automatically.
Dose reset
User has the possibility to reset accumulated dose and dose accumulation time using the
Reset Dose item of the Action tab of the Program tool bar, Reset Dose button of the
Device status tab, or use the menu Device line of the same name, and then confirm the
action by clicking “Yes” in the dialog box.
After confirming the intention to reset the accumulated DE, program will start to reset the

accumulated value of the equivalent dose and the accumulation time.
Value of the accumulated equivalent dose (DE) and the accumulation time are read from the
instrument and are displayed on the screen of the Device Status tab in the measurement
mode.
Measurement units
The program allows to select the measurement units. This function is necessary to
synchronize the measurement units set in the instrument with the units displayed on the
screen of the Device Status tab.
Using the Indication tab you can choose between R and Sv, selecting or clearing the check
box "Display in Sievert", and then clicking the Apply button.

HISTORY MODE
When the instrument is working in the autonomous mode (the instrument is not connected to
PC) it records all the operation history into its non-volatile memory. When the instrument is
connected to the PC and software, all its operation data will be read by the program and
displayed in the History mode window. The process is being continued all the time the
instrument is connected to the PC. So user can get a complete picture of the radiation
environment.
At the top of the window there are three buttons for choosing the file extension.
Below there are measurement data represented in tabular style. The first column shows the
date and time of measurement in chronological order, the second - the type of event, the
third – DER value, the fourth - the accumulated dose, the fifth – statistical error value.
____________________________________________________________________________________25
© 2013 User Guide www.polimaster.com
The history events will not be written by the instrument with the low
battery!
History events
____________________________________________________________________________________26
© 2013 User Guide www.polimaster.com
Software does not use any of the history filters, except one possibility to change the events
chronology - the first or the last event in the first line, which is produced by pressing the
Time column heading.
In the History tab of the toolbar (item History Recording Interval), using the adjustment
buttons one can choose the value of time intervals in which the current count rate
values are recorded in the instrument memory. Minimum value – 1 min, recommended value
– 60 min.
After selecting the necessary functions you need to press the Apply button in the main
program window to save the settings changes to the instrument and then confirm your action
by clicking “Yes” in the dialog box.
History export
History export buttons are located at the top of the window and are used for
choosing the file extension.

When you select one of the file types (.rtf, .pdf, .txt), the standard Windows dialog box “Save
As” appears and allows you to save the history to a file of the selected type.
It is necessary to name the file and to save it in the specified folder, after that it can be
opened using any program for the spreadsheets viewing.
History reset
To reset the instrument history you can choose the item “Clear History” of the Device menu
or the Action tab item of the same name, and then confirm the action by clicking “Yes” in the
dialog box.

INSTRUMENT OPERATION
MEASUREMENT MODE
Measurement mode is the main instrument operation mode. It is displayed at software start
by default. The mode enables software to display following measurement data coming from
the instrument:
- measured dose equivalent rate of photon radiation;
- measured dose equivalent of photon radiation;
- measured α radiation flux density;
- measured β radiation flux density;
To enter the measurement mode it is necessary to choose the Device Status of the main
program window.

Measurement modes
To switch to other measurement mode it is necessary to choose the mode buttons in the right
lower corner of the Device status bar.
By default instrument displays the photon radiation dose equivalent rate measurement mode.
When the instrument is in the DER measurement mode, the Device status tab screen
indicates continuously measured DER values in "μSv/h", "mSv/h" and statistical error of the
measured dose rate in percentage.

Alpha measurement
Display indicates the count rate value, determined by the joint α- β- γ-radiation during the α-
particles flux density measurement.
On the display could be read the results of the α-flux density measurement in the min-1/cm2.
Beta measurement
Display indicates the count rate value, determined by the joint β- γ-radiation during the β-
particles flux density measurement.
On the display could be read the results of the β -flux density measurement in the min-1/cm2.

The software is not designed to carry out direct measurements, rather to display processes
performed by the instrument. For detailed instructions on carrying out the measurements
consult relevant chapters and sections of the Instrument Operation Manual.
MENU CONFIGURATION
In case of need to hide some of the instrument functions to prevent their use, there is a
Configuration menu tab. It gives the possibility to choose necessary instrument functions
with the help of software tools, and other functions hide and make inaccessible.
