A. Background
Power Plant Engineering is a field of engineering that deals with the study and
application of energy. Power plant engineers are usually concerned with using
electricity to transmit energy. The science of Power plant Engineering is based on
electricity, whether it is low power or high power. Mostly, the subjects that have
been taught are related to problems in electricity and it’s applications.
The college students should have an ability in theory and practical knowledge
which support the process of study that is very important for preparing in working
field after graduated. The theory comprehension is obtained from the lecture on
campus. The application knowledge is given by practical activity at laboratorium.
Nevertheless, it is very important for students to have an experience in working
with the real enviroment such as field training at PT. Pertamina Energy Area
Kamojang. It will give a wide knowledge and open the insight of working
enviroment.
Power plant Engineering of state polytechnic ujung pandang requires the
students to take field training or internship program in the 7th semester. The
students usually can take internship after finishing 6th semester of studying.
This internship program is expected can help the students to apply and implement
the knowledge of Power plant Engineering, especially in Power System as the
requirement before graduation. We would like to apply internship program with
PT. Pertamina Energy Area Kamojang for 3 months and hope this internship
can be a valuable and advantageous experience for us in the future.
The goal of doing internship is to make the students understand the work life
and learn how to do the real job in as many areas of operations as possible. By
doing internship, students will become familiar with industry, business practice and
corporate social responsibility service. Students will understand the basic
organization structure and be exposed to as many administrative areas, such as
technical, finance and personal as possible. Yet, of course the surrounding area
where we have to contribute will be decided by the company.
B. Purpose
Field Training as comprehensive study activity is expected to get some

advantageous are :
1. Giving more insight and knowledge to the students for preparing the
capability before working in the real environment.
2. Knowing the integrated technology development of electricity.
3. Capable to implement the knowledge from polytechnic to working at field.
4. Adding valuable experience that useful for carreer in the future.
C. Topics Description
Some important related subjects that we have been completed during 6

semester that support our internship are:
1. Fundamentals of Electric Machines ( Theory and practical ).
2. System control ( Theory and practical ).
3. Electric circuits ( Theory ).
4. High Voltage Engineering ( Theory and practical).
5. Electronic Power system ( Theory and practical ).
6. Power Generation system ( Theory and practical ).
7. Machines of Fluida and Thermal (Theory).
8. Alternative Energy ( Theory ).
9. Energy Management ( Theory ).
10. Electric Instalasions ( Workshop).
11. Heat Transfer ( Theory ).
12. Thermodynamics ( Theory ).
13. Electric Measurement ( Practical ).
14. Thermal Measurement ( Practical ).
15. Protection and transmision Electrical (Theory and practical)

Based on above subjects that we have learned during 6 semester, we

might be suitable to have the topic as below:
1. Generator / motor protection.

2. SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition ) in electric
power system operation.
3. Generation and transmission system.
4. Reliability analysis of power system.
5. Maintenance of equipment and machine.
6. Electrical installation system.
7. Protection system and insulation of generation.
However, if the above topics are not available this year, the company may
offer another topics which is still relevant to our background ( Power plant
Engineering ).
D. Implementation
According to the state polytechnic of ujung pandang requirement, the

internship will take 3 months or in accordance with the company policy.

Raya Kamojang , Garut 44101 indonesia
If the implementation is not available at that time, the company may offer
another time at the discretion of the company.

F. Closing
In education, balancing between theory and practical is an absolute thing.

We are educating not only to be a graduate for our self, but also can be a great use
for the society, because we believe sciences and technologies were found to be
amendable. Therefore, we are as students of the Mechanical Engineering study
program Power plant of state polytechnic of ujung pandang, really have a big
hope to do the internship in PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy Area Kamojang.
So that, we can master the subjects that we have taken better. We also will do our
best to do the internship in the company.
