Dear Parish Family,
Today is the Twenty-seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time.
It is also the beginning of Respect Life Month and the
month dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.
Our parish is observing Respect Life Sunday by hosting
a “Baby Shower”. Nine months ago you were invited to
Adopt-a-Baby. During the last nine months, you were
asked to name this child, to pray for him/her, and to follow
the baby’s development through monthly updates in our
bulletin. Now that the baby is “near birth”, we are hosting
our Annual Baby Shower that will benefit Birth Right here
in Maywood. Last year your generous outreach
surpassed even the most optimistic of expectations. Your
support has enabled Birth Right to continue its wonderful
mission of outreach to mothers who, thankfully, have
made the natural choice to bring their babies to birth.
I thank Bernadette Parodi, the chairperson of our
parish’s Respect Life Committee, for organizing this
year’s event. She and other members of the committee
are an important part of our goal to bring our society back
to following the Gospel of Life and not the culture of
death.
Two years ago we resurrected the Respect Life
Committee here. Initially your response was great to this
endeavor, but over the last year the committee is
struggling as our numbers at meetings are in the single
digits. Your help is needed. Please join the Respect Life
Committee and be part of this important ministry in our
parish.
Last month representatives of the Respect Life
Committee of seven parishes met here to see how we
can work together as one group to promote the cause of
life here in Bergen County. With more than 20 people
present, many ideas were discussed and information was
shared. The Holy Spirit was at work as we spoke about
promoting the Gospel of Life in an ever-more present
culture of death.
We are having a follow-up meeting on Thursday,
December 2nd, at 7 pm at Holy Trinity in Hackensack. I
urge and invite you to come out and be part of this new
endeavor in our area.
This weekend and continuing for the next 4 weekends,
we will have the recitation of the Rosary at 4:30 pm on
Saturdays. This initiative by our parish’s Spiritual Life
Committee is being done now as October is the month of
the Rosary. The Rosary will be led by a member of our
Rosary Society, who will also provide Rosaries to those
who may need them.
I thank Deacon Joe, the members of our Spiritual Life
Committee, and the Rosary Society for helping make this
devotion a reality. The Rosary is a powerful tool of prayer
and one that I say everyday.

Treasure and for all that you do for the life of our parish.

60TH ANNIVERSARY NEWS
Mark This Year's Calendar - November 7, 2010
Our 60th Anniversary Gala will begin with Mass at 3 pm
celebrated by Bishop John Flesey, D.D.. Mass will be
followed by a reception from 5 - 9 pm at the Hasbrouck
Heights Hilton. Good food, fun, fellowship, and great
dancing with a fabulous live band.
There are still some tickets available for our gala.

The Gala Committee is looking for prizes. If you would like

Bereavement Counseling
It is said that Death ends a life, but it does not end a
relationship. There is great truth in this statement.
However, the loss of a loved one can bring great pain.
Our Lady Queen of Peace’ s Bereavement Ministry will

MASS OF ANOINTING
On Saturday, October 16, 2010, our parish will celebrate a
communal Anointing of the Sick Mass at 11:00 am and
blessing of the E.M.Ts. This sacrament may be received
more than once and is for any person who has become ill
and is in danger of subsequent sickness. We especially
encourage the elderly to be candidates, but anyone facing
major surgery, a serious illness, or anyone who has been
afflicted for a long time is invited to receive the sacrament.
A light lunch will be served in our auditorium immediately
following the Mass.

SOUP KITCHEN MINISTRY
On September 18th, we served 120 meals at Mother
Teresa's in Newark. Many thanks to all who
participated. Our next date is Sunday, October 17th at
Eva's, and we are serving Chili and Rice (cooked). We
will be meeting in the rear of church at 9:30 am. If

Archbishop Myers extends a cordial invitation to the
people of the Archdiocese of Newark to join him on an
Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National
Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington DC
on Saturday, October 23rd 2010.
