Course Description:
The focus of Integrated Math 2 is on quadratic expressions, equations, and functions; comparing their
characteristics and behavior to those of linear and exponential relationships from Integrated Math 1. The
need for extending the set of rational numbers arises and real and complex numbers are introduced so that
all quadratic equations can be solved. The link between probability and data is explored through
conditional probability and counting methods, including their use in making and evaluating decisions. The
study of similarity leads to an understanding of right triangle trigonometry and connects to quadratics
through Pythagorean relationships.

Classroom Expectations
-Students are expected to take bathroom/water breaks during passing periods.
-Classroom calculators are not to leave the classroom without the teacher’s permission. Violation of this
will result in the report of a theft.
-Homework needs to be completed by the beginning of class. Students are expected to come in outside of
class-time to ask questions- not at the beginning of class.
-Due to the inquiry-style of our curriculum, participation and discussions is an integral part for success.
Students must actively participate during lessons and complete their own work.
-Students are expected to show their work on tests, homework, in-class lessons, and quizzes.
-Cell phones and headphones are absolutely not allowed in the classroom per school policy. Violation of
this rule will result in the phone/headphones being taken away and given to the office.

-Absence(s) need to communicated to the teacher. If you know of an absence coming up, it is expected
that work is made up PRIOR to that absence.

*School policy states that students must make up the work missed for an excused absence. Students will
have at least as many excused school days as they were absent, plus one additional day, to complete make-
up work. If the make-up work is not completed in the allocated time, a deduction or zero will be given for
the assignments. Unexcused absences do not allow for make-up work to be submitted for credit. If you
feel there are extenuating circumstances, please visit with me on such matters.*
GETTING THE GRADE
-Each quarter is broken down into three possible categories for grades: Tests (50%), Quizzes/Projects (30%)
and Daily Lessons/Homework (20%).
-PLEASE NOTE: Tests are worth HALF of your quarter grade. This means it is very important that you pay
attention in class, understand all the work leading up to the test, ask questions, and STUDY!!! Test retakes will
be allowed and are to be completed outside of class (by appointment) within one week of receiving your
grade. In order to qualify for a test retake, you cannot have any missing assignments for that unit. If you miss your
appointment to make up your test, your forfeit your opportunity.

-HOMEWORK POLICY: Homework may be assigned throughout the week and is due the following class period. If it is
not completed the following class period, this may result in a zero/missing in the gradebook. However, you will still have
the opportunity to turn it in until the following Friday for full credit. After the ‘forgiveness window’ passes for
homework, it will not be accepted.

-SEMESTER GRADE MAKE-UP: Each quarter is worth 45% of your final semester
grade and the semester exam will count for 10%. Grading Scale
FINAL GRADE MAKE-UP: Since Math 2 is a year long course, each semester will A = 100% - 93%
count for 50% of the final grade. As per the grading policy set forth by B = 92% - 85%
Central High School: The only time rounding shall occur during the final C = 84% - 77%
grading period (which means end of the year for Math 2) when the current
D = 76% - 70%
grade is within .50 of the next letter grade.
F = 69% - 0%
- EXTRA CREDIT: This is not something that I offer due to the opportunity to retake tests. If you complete all the
assignments, ask questions when you need further clarification, and study for your exams, you will be SUCCESSFUL!

Academic Dishonesty
Cheating/dishonesty will not be tolerated in this class. Students are expected to uphold high academic moral
and integrity. The following list are examples that are in violation of the policy, but are not limited to:

-Copying homework from other students -Talking during quiz/test

-Copying homework from class website -Forging parents’ signature
-Taking pictures of quizzes/tests -Using cellphone during quiz/test
-Using non-approved materials on quiz/test

Failure to comply with these expectations will result in a referral to administration and a loss of points.

MATERIALS NEEDED CALCULATOR REQUIREMENTS

- Composition Notebook -A scientific calculator is the minimum requirement for
- Writing Utensil (If you use a pen, you need use outside of the classroom. Smart phones have the
ability to download one for free. I recommend the app
whiteout)
DESMOS.
- Glue Stick (to be left in the classroom)
- Colored Pencils -Graphing Calculators will be provided in class, but they
- Box of Tissues (Optional, but appreciated) are to remain in the classroom.
- Expo Markers (Optional, but appreciated)
- Scientific Calculator (see calculator memo) -If you want a graphing calculator, I would recommend
the TI-84 PLUS C. This is the same calculator we use in
A planner is highly recommended! class and is allowed for use on the ACT.

One last word: I am super excited to spend this year together exploring math.
In order to accomplish everything that we need and to reach the fullest
potential, it is expected that you show respect and kindness to everyone in the
classroom, communicate effectively and of course, have fun (even if this
isn’t your favorite subject)! Together we can make this year the best school
year yet! --Mrs. Lyons
