HOLIDAY HOMEWORK – Class 8

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Books are the mystery of human creativity and play an important role in our lives. Reading
expands our minds and helps us to explore the creativity of human mind, even as we
understand our culture.
Read the following chapters from Jawahar Lal Nehru’s “The Discovery of India”.
Chapter 3: The Quest
Chapter 4: The Discovery Of India
Chapter5: Through the Ages
And do the following:
 Select one facet of ancient India, research about it and make a fact sheet.
 Pick out any two aspects from these chapters that you did not know about India
that fascinated you. Write a short essay of about 300 words on each aspect.
 Write three diary entries of about 250 words each on different aspects of Modern
India or your city. Mention why you have chosen these topics.

 
 

MATHEMATICS

Groups have been allotted in classes. Develop a page (group wise) for MATHS
MAGAZINE TO BE PUBLISHED IN SCHOOL.
1. Create a poster page depicting timeline of events of mathematical development.
Connect it to simultaneous historical events. Try to make some connection with
DISCOVERY OF INDIA.

This can also be done using Computers. The poster should be catchy, innovative and
related to MATHS.

 2. Make cartoon strips involving funny riddles. Make it as innovative as you can.
Use your creative skills to create your own cartoon characters give them trendy
names. Do not copy it from net.

3. Here’s something for the musicians. Make a math rap and present it in the most
musical way you can. It should have at least 4 stanzas. Recordings will be done
and presented in the school.

Students are to a make a working model of any one of the following:
 Hydro rockets
 Hover board
 Segway
 Sewage Treatment Plant
 Van de Graff Generator

Research about the model and present a write up for the same.

HISTORY

Q1:- Make a PowerPoint Presentation (10-15 Slides) on 2 famous world personalities

who fought using the methods of non-violence for equality. E.g. Mahatma Gandhi
The Presentation should include all the relevant information regarding the abolition of
inequality. The slides should contain information in bullet points with more focus on
pictures. The presentation needs to be handed over in hard copy as well. (10M)
 

GEOGRAPHY
Discover India:
 Features of tropical climate experienced in India.
 Major trees, birds, and animals found in tropical forests of India.
 Other areas that experience the same kind of climate as India. (Monsoon
climate). Any five. ( Mark the places on the world map)

The above information should be displayed on a poster.

Pictures can be used to show various features and life forms.
Use half sized chart paper to present your data and information.
Bibliography should be presented at the bottom of the chart.

B. After reading Chapters 3, 4 and 5 from the book Discovery of India, research and
create a movie on the cultures of India that fascinated you.

Make a Painting on any Legendary or Mythological episode/ character of Legends

and Mythology of Spain or Latin American Spanish speaking countries. .
Give the description (in 150 words) of the narrative/character on a separate A4
sheet (IN SPANISH) which will be presented later in the class in the student’s own
words.

1. Stick a screen shot of the MS Word document on a A-3 size chart paper and
draw a similar document with the translated menus and toolbars into German. It
should be a exact replica of the original screen shot but translated into German. 

2. On A3 size sheets, paste pictures of any 4 famous German places and write a
short description on each of them in 50 - 60 words. The work must be
handwritten and very creatively presented.
