Marvel-Legacy-Line-Up-Renumbering-Some-Books/page22
MARVEL COMICS has had so many ridiculous reboots and failed "tries" - again
and again and again - beginning in the 1990's (where there were some good comics
written nonetheless!) that the numbering of ALL of their titles - MAJOR TITLES
included - has become so skewed and screwed-up that many despaired of any chance at
organization ever again!
Someone at Marvel, fortunately, was astute enough to see that the numbering of
a comics title is important. Over at DC COMICS they recently reached ISSUE #1000 of
the famous Superman title ACTION COMICS which began in 1938.
The MAJOR REBOOTS at both DC and MARVEL occured beginning in August of 2011
for DC (continuing with monthly "waves" of new "#1's") - with MARVEL rebooting ALL
their titles under the MARVEL NOW reboot in October 2012 (this also included many
monthly "waves" of new "#1's").
At DC they did their reboot with their NEW 52 reboot. Not only were the titles
rebooted to a ridiculous new "#1" issue but each title was also "retooled" for the
"modern era", etc. It wasn't long at Marvel before more and more "reboots" occured
- so much so that the flagship title FANTASTIC FOUR actually had 7 NUMBER "1"'s in
4 years! That is how absurd things became. Obviously it isn't the Marvel of the
Stan Lee days or the DC of the Janette Kahn, but still, for things to get this
ridiculous was unforseen by everyone. And STILL there are some good comics being
written - but not as many or as good as the old days!
SO - The POINT is that someone at MARVEL COMICS woke up to the fact that
numbering is important in 2017 and so, the titles - the MAIN titles at least, will
be enjoying what is being termed "LEGACY NUMBERING" wherein no matter what the
"Volume" number is at, or even what the titles numbering is at - the ALL-TIME
NUMBERING will be part of the total and final numbering. For instance, if a title
named Captain Reboot is on Volume 7 and issue 23 of Volume 7, the cover will bear
this out and say #23. BUT, if that issue of Captain Reboot, Volume 7, #23 is ALSO
the 765th issue of that specific title (meaning that if they didn't play the
stupid, fruitless game of constantly "rebooting" titles so that they could sell
many "number 1" issues with 10 variant covers to dumb fanboys - if the title had
been run right along with a consistent numbering like ALL titles were for the first
40 years, etc.) then the cover will ALSO bear THIS out! For instance the cover will
say something like #23 (of volume 7) AND #765 L.N (for "Legacy Numbering") which is
both refreshing AND irritating all at once! Why were things just fine for over 50
years and then for the last 30 years things could not have been more absurd? That's
just the nature of the (new) business of comics companies owned by gigantic media
conglomerates who both don't KNOW anything about the comics industry, and don't
much CARE about the comics business! Disney now owns Marvel Comics. That alone
answers a lot!
Of course, being the greedy, mega-industrial giant that now represents both
MARVEL and DC now, they will likely go back on ALL of this and produce yet MORE
"#1" issues with 12 variant covers in the near future. Who cares! I and ALL the
true fans will always keep the numbers correct! A great place to get the numbers
right is at COMICBOOKDB.COM - one of the greatest comics database sights there is!

Ultimates 2:
===================================
Incredible Hulk:
Tales To Astonish #1-101 (1959-1968)
(*NOTE: The original "THE INCREDIBLE HULK" title ran for 6 issues every other month
from May 1962 to March 1963 before being cancelled. Then the Hulk began to appear
regularly in "Tales to Astonish" with issue #59 (September 1964). For some reason
those original 6 issues have never been included in the HULK issue numbering! For
example, after Tales to Astonish ended in March of 1968 then it turned into "The
Incredible Hulk" right away and picked up the numbering from "Tales" with "The
Incredible Hulk #102 (April 1968). So those original 6 issues got lost in the haze
somewhere! - M.S.G.)
*IMPORTANT! = These "Legacy Numberings" (as below) are the MOST UNDERSTANDABLE
way to look at the Numberings. Marvel REALLY screwed things up beginning in the
Mid-1990s with thier gimmicky "renumberings" and endless new "#1s"! COMICBOOKDB has
the "Legacy Numberings" as below. It will be found on the page of one of the titles
in the series. The one below was found on the page for "The Totally Awesome Hulk
(2016)" at"
http://www.comicbookdb.com/title.php?ID=49621
*The following INCREDIBLE HULK notes are also from COMICBOOKDB with my own
additions - M.S.G.:
Notes:
- Incredible Hulk (1997) #-1 (Note: This "flashback issue" (#-1) was said to be
counted as issue #475). It was also said to "continue to Tales to Astonish (1959)
#1... " but, as you see from the "Legacy Numbering" (directly above) it is NOT
actually counted into the total numbering! Just think of it as it was originally
intended to be thought of, as numer "- 1" (number "minus one")! - M.S.G.)
- Tales to Astonish (1959) #101 continues to Incredible Hulk (1968) #102...
- Incredible Hulk (1968) #474 continues to Hulk (1999) #1
- Hulk (1999) #11 continues to Incredible Hulk (2000) #12
- Incredible Hulk (2000) #112 (in addition to continuing to The Incredible
Hercules (2008) #113 which branches off and has little to do with the
Incredible Hulk, and NOTHING to do with the series numbering! - M.S.G.) also
continues to Hulk (2008) #1...
- Hulk (2008) #12 (in addition to continuing in it's own ongoing series with #13
to its end with #57 in 10/2012) also continues to Incredible Hulk
(1968) #600. (Note also that after #57 (10/2012) this series becomes "Red She-Hulk"
with issue #58 (12/2012) which ends with issue #67 (9/2013) -
talk about "re-numbering" gone mad! - M.S.G.
- Incredible Hulk (1968) #600 continues to #611. #612 changes name to "Incredible
Hulks (which ran to issue #635 in 10/2011)
- Then "The Incredible Hulk" was revived with a new #1 (12/2011) lasting to issue
#15 (12/2012)
- Then, as part of the 2013 Marvel NOW" Reboot, we got "The Indestructible Hulk"
#1 (1/2013) to #20 (5/2014) written by Mark Waid.
- Then, in 2014 its back to just "Hulk" #1 (6/2014) to #16 (7/2015)
- Then "Totally Awesome Hulk" #1 (2/2016) to #23 (11/2017), which brings us back
full circle to,
- Finally, "The Incredible Hulk" again in 2017 #709 (12/2017)("Legacy Numbering")
to the present #717 of today (7/2018) ongoing... ! Wikipedia
describes this final renumbered #709: "In 2017, The Incredible Hulk was relaunched
with issue #709 with the series using "legacy numbering." However, the
main character will be Amadeus Cho instead of Bruce Banner, since Cho succeeded
Banner as the Hulk as shown in the Totally Awesome Hulk series."
What a bunch of crap! This shows why very few care to read the new comics anymore -
and the idiocy is that both Marvel and DC think that continued "tricks"
like endless reboots, etc., (which are the main problem) is the only answer! Sad
and unfortunate, but typical of our times - M.S.G.

Captain Marvel:
Marvel Superheroes #12-13 (Dec 1967 & March 1968)
Captain Marvel (1968) #1-62
(*NOTE: This was The ORIGINAL Mar-Vell, who, bonded with Rick Jones, appeared
in his namesake title and often in the Avengers. He became ill and eventually
suffered a fatal cancer Captain Marvel #34 (9/1974) when he battled the villain
Nitro and was exposed to Compound 13, a lethal gas. Having become ill he lived for
some years, finishing his own regular title and appearing in the Avengers until
finally his death came as described in the original Marvel Graphic Novel #1 (1982)
"The Death of Captain Marvel." Of course, the "Marvel Comics" of the 2000s & 2010s
just could not let this wonderful story lie, and so they retconned Captain Mar-Vell
as a Skrull named Khn'nr, who received memory implants. This completely STUPID and
unnecesary retconn is rejected entirely by myself and all fans of not only Captain
Marvel (Mar-Vell) but also of plain good writing wherein the authors are committed
to the story and its characters, rather than being crass sell-outs willing to
enthusiastically prostitute their entire line of established storylines and
characters for a few bucks! Somehow, the soulless business "suits" at Marvel Comics
became the creative decision makers and the result is the Mega-Media conglomerate
without a face or identity which is now in the Marvel offices in New York!
The following "Captain Marvel" is the storyline of others who took up the Captain
Marvel mantle at some time after the death of the original Mar-Vell. For some
reason it seems that Genis-Vell (the son of the original Captain Marvel "Mar-Vell")
and the original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) is not included, nor is Monica Rambeau,
the Captain Marvel from the 1980s! Genis-Vell had a series from Nov 1999 to Oct
2002, #s 1-35. This series Comes from Avengers Forever (1998) #12. Goes to Captain
Marvel (2002) #1. The next series, Captain Marvel 2002, goes from 11/2002 to
9/2004 #s 1-25. This series is Part of "U-Decide campaign" along with Marville and
Ultimate Adventures. All issues feature a second issue number which continues the
numbering from the Captain Marvel (1999) series. This numbering takes up with the
very next Captain Marvel series after the 2002 "Genis-Vell series - that is - the
2012 series wherein Carol Danvers, Ms Marvel, takes up the mantle of Captain
Marvel. This series ran from 9/2012 to 1/2014 #s 1-17.
From COMICBOOKDB:
Notes:
Continues from "The Mighty Captain Marvel" but with legacy numbering.

*And HERE'S a brief on THE FANTASTIC FOUR which is returning next month (August
2018) after a 3 year absence:
Title Continuity:
In the storyline "Three", which concluded in Fantastic Four #587 (cover date
March 2011, published January 26, 2011), THE HUMAN TORCH APPEARS TO DIE stopping a
horde of monsters from the other-dimensional Negative Zone. The series ended with
the following issue, #588, and relaunched in March 2011 as simply FF.The relaunch
saw the team assume a new name, the Future Foundation, adopt new black-and-white
costumes, and accept longtime ally Spider-Man as a member. In October 2011, with
the publication of FF #11 (cover-dated Dec. 2011), the Fantastic Four series
reached its 599th issue.
In November 2011, to commemorate the 50TH ANNIVERSARYof the Fantastic Four and
of Marvel Comics, the company published the 100-page Fantastic Four #600 (cover-
dated Jan. 2012), which returned the title to its original numbering and featured
the return of the Human Torch. It revealed the fate of the character of Johnny
Storm after issue #587, showing that while he did in fact die, he was resurrected
to fight as a gladiator for the entertainment of Annihilus. Storm later formed a
resistance force called Light Brigade and defeated Annihilus.
In the graphic novel Fantastic Four: Season One, the Fantastic Four is given
an updated origin story set in the present day instead of the 1960s.
The hardcover compilation debuted at number four on The New York Times Best Seller
list for graphic novels.
As part of MARVEL NOW! Fantastic Four ended with #611, ending Jonathan
Hickman's long run on FF titles, and the title was relaunched in November 2012 with
the creative team of writer Matt Fraction and artist Mark Bagley. In the new title
with its numbering starting at #1, the entire Fantastic Four family explore space
together, with the hidden intent for Reed Richards to discover why his powers are
fading.
Writer James Robinson and artist Leonard Kirk launched a new Fantastic Four
series in February 2014 (cover dated April 2014).
Robinson later confirmed that Fantastic Four would be CANCELLED IN 2015 with
issue #645, saying that "The book is reverting to its original numbers, and the
book is going away for a while. I'm moving towards the end of Fantastic Four. I
just want to reassure people that you will not leave this book with a bad taste in
your mouth." In the aftermath of the "Secret Wars" storyline, the Thing is working
with the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Human Torch is acting as an ambassador
with the Inhumans. With Franklin's powers restored and Reed having absorbed the
power of the Beyonders from Doom, the Richards family is working on travelling
through and reconstructing the multiverse, but Peter Parker has purchased the
Baxter Building to keep it "safe" until the team is ready to come back together.
A NEW VOLUME FOR THE FANTASTIC FOUR is currently PLANNED FOR RELEASE IN AUGUST
2018, as part of Marvel's A Fresh Start event.
