Regarding ADHD, you say, "most of its supposed ‘symptoms’ are actually experienced
by other people, not the patient – by parents and teachers whose lives are disrupted by Cameron, David
boisterous children." Cameron, Samantha
It is true to say, that much of the drugging of these children is promoted by schools (and Cannabis
often supported by exasperated parents) because the children don't behave or respond
like their fellow pupils and the teachers want an easier life. These children are often Capital punishment
intelligent and tend to have very active brains and imagination. Their curiosity is
boundless which provides opportunities to manage them better but there is little room or Cars
will for a more creative approach as 'it isn't fair on the other children' if he's treated Castro, Fidel
differently. This is the crux of the problem.
Censorship
Whilst that may be understandable, by not recognising the problems, refusing to treat
them differently means they get lumped in with many plain naughty and disobedient Charles.Prince
children and they all get labelled and drugged. Parents also have an added incentive to Chile
have their child officially 'diagnosed' with ADHD to help them cope with an often hostile
school and to gain access to 'special ed' schools or classes and helps to remove any China
blame attached to their parenting skills. Christopher Hitchens
Having been directly affected by ADHD (I have written privately to you about it) and after Churchill Cult
years of frustration, it is clear that there are many unruly children wrongly 'diagnosed' as
ADHD and a few who are genuinely different from their peers, who do not conform in the Cinema
expected way. Although they cause annoyance to others, (they will argue a point into the
next week) they also suffer themselves for constantly being in the wrong and frustrating Clarke, Charles
those around them. They often feel persecuted having a strong sense of fairness and Clarke, Kenneth
misunderstand people because they take things very literally. Alongside this, is
constantly being berated for being disorganised, forgetting things like PE kit and home Class
work, being in the wrong place at the wrong time and unable to do the things we all have Clegg, Nicholas
to do to get on easily in life.
Because these things are a bit vague, it is easy to shrug them off and say 'everyone Clinton, Bill
does that, but you have to make more effort' etc but these children and young adults Clockwork Orange
rarely learn from their mistakes and somehow make ordinary life so much harder for
themselves which other people find hard to understand. Coalition government
I think ADHD is a slight chemical difference in the brain that emphasises certain Cold War
negative behaviour, only slightly different to others, making it hard to identify with but
different enough to cause them difficulties. Whilst drugging children as we do now, is Communist Party
intolerable, for ADHD children, drugs make a huge helpful difference allowing them to Comprehensive Schools
stay in mainstream schools which is the focus of much of their difficulty. Oddly in our
liberal society, we are intolerant to these sufferers and at the same time reluctant to Conservative Home
punish the naughty, mixing them all up together with terrible consequences. Conservative Party (see also Useless Tories,

The UK political establishment would contingency plan against sufficient of the general Cuba

It seems to be that £52 billion – each year – should buy you plenty of ‘materiel, Dunkirk
manpower and maintenance’. I can’t imagine why you would think otherwise. And of
course we can’t know exactly who we might need to defend ourselves against at any Dyslexia
particular point in time, but any sensible government would at least start their planning Economics
on the basis of perceived threats. Otherwise you might as well say that we need to
spend £10 trillion a year to defend ourselves against an alien attack. Education

@Thucydides: Two percent of a 2.6 trillion GDP is only 52 billion. That's not going to buy Elocution
much in the way of materiel, manpower or maintenance. And as regards the question of
who you must defend yourself against, that question can never be fully answered in Emin, Tracey
terms of present circumstances, for things have a way of changing, if history is any
guide. If that's the excuse you're obliged to make to justify an inadequate level of
European Union
defense, it would be more cost-effective simply to give up on the notion and allow other Euthanasia
countries to defend you ... assuming they think it worth their while.

Mr Hitchens,
Trident. Do you think that in 1945 the Americans would have dropped the atom bombs Hague, William
on Japan if the Japanese had possessed Trident ?***PH writes. No. but then I don't
think they should have done anyway, or that it ended the war**** Hannan, Daniel
As for your previous assertion that all we need for a nuclear deterrent is a few planes to Harris, Sir Arthur
deliver our nuclear bombs, which planes would these be ? The last british long range
bomber was the Vulcan, which retired in the 1980's. Are you suggesting that we design Health and Safety
and build a new british bomber like the american B2 bomber ? That would take at least Heroin
ten years, and cost at least as much as Trident.
***I suspect several existing planes could be converted to carry it. Or we could put it on Hirst, Damien
SLCMs, like Israel. It doesn't really matter,as it is unusable by any civilised and pointless History
anyway. It's a bluff. It could be achieved by an inflatable deterrent. ****

Inflatable Tanks: This goes hand in hand with the recent army recruitment advert telling Human Rights

Mr Hitchens, I note that you are a former Defence Correspondent. The fact doesn't
inevitably mean that you have a greater or more detailed knowledge of military matters Kamm, Oliver
than I do. Such expertise as you undoubtedly do have may or may not be entirely up to Kazakhstan
date - depending on how long ago it was that you had this function.

At any rate, what you wrote was: "The Army is thinking of buying a large fleet of
inflatable tanks, in the hope of fooling an enemy into believing that we are still a serious Kelly, Ruth

work"

Kinnock, Neil
are you getting at all? I mean, it isn't as if the army could be planning to use them as Kitchen Sink(chained to)

My only point here is that, while the idea of inflatable tanks might appear ridiculous to
some lay persons, (if not to you and me) the concept behind them is good and valuable. Labour Party
