Petrophysics Student Competition

Background
The Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) is a
nonprofit corporation dedicated to the advancement of the science of petrophysics
and formation evaluation, through well logging and other formation evaluation
techniques and to the application of these techniques to the exploitation of gas, oil
and other minerals. Founded in 1959, SPWLA provides information services to
scientists in the petroleum and mineral industries, serves as a voice of shared
interests in our profession, plays a major role in strengthening petrophysical
education, and strives to increase the awareness of the role petrophysics has in the
Oil and Gas Industry and the scientific community.
In order to develop the analysis methods, geoscientists must work each other
in a team. Among all data used in this exploration stage, seismic and well logs
data are mostly used in order to interpret the subsurface rocks’ geological
condition.
A new SPWLA chapter in Indonesia has been founded. As the missions of
SWLA Indonesia Chapter for education, strengthening petrophysical education,
SPWLA Indonesia Chapter presents Petrophysics Student Competition.

Objectives
Through this event, we are aiming to:
1. Increase technical skill of Indonesian student of how to analyse hydrocarbon
using log data.
2. Indonesian students are able to enrich the experiences and knowledge in
petrophysical evaluation.
 3. Create an occasion where the participants can create a new connection among
each other.

ACTIVITY
Timeline
o Registration Date : July, 18th – August, 5th 2018
o The data will be sent on : August, 7th 2018
o Deadline for final composite project, presentation, and video (by email) :
August, 21st 2018
o Final Presentation will be held on : August, 31st 2018

Terms & Conditions

1. Allowed participants are from 3th – 9th semester active students with
geophysics, geology, or petroleum engineering background.
2. Each team consists of students and can be from different major
3. Each university can only be represented by 2 teams
4. Top 5 team will be invited to Jakarta for final presentation and final scoring

Competition Mechanism

1. Each team must register the representatives by submitting the form with
attached student ID card.
2. The teams will receive data package equipped with licensed software, each
team must run the analysis using software provided by the committee.
 3. Each team makes composite project, final presentation (max. 25 slides) and
video presentation explaining the projects (max. 15 minutes) then send it to
SPWLAstudentcomp2018@gmail.com with subject :
INTEPRETASI_ Name of the Team Leader_ Name of the University
Example:
INTEPRETASI_DIPONEGORO_UNIVERSITASPAHLAWAN
It should be submitted no later than August, 21st 2018 at 23.59 WIB.
4. The submitted project is expected as final result with no additional work.
5. The video should be presented in Indonesian Language (bahasa) with
english content slides.
6. 5 best team will be announced and invited to Jakarta for direct presentation
scored by selected judges.
7. Only 3 teams will be selected as winners with detailed prices listed as

o The winners will be announced in the closing ceremony.

2nd winner will get prizes: IDR 2.000.000 , memento, certificate, and
free ticket for 2nd SPWLA symposium.

3rd winner will get prizes: IDR 1.000.000 , memento, certificate, and
free ticket for 2nd SPWLA symposium.
