L'Ecole Hors Les Murs / School Beyond the Walls

School Beyond the Walls is an international educational network which gathers 1500 teachers and students
coming from more than 100 countries worldwide. Our network is a non profit-making organization under the
French law of 1901, notably active in several cooperation initiatives between northern and southern nations.
Amongst our current actions, we have faciliated the setting up of a school in Lumbumbashi, Katanga
(Democratic Republic of Congo) to provide education to 160 war orphans and homeless children. We are
also involved in the development of a rural school located in the Bhaktapur region of Nepal. We give priority
to intercultural and multilingual educational programs that are peace-builders for future generations.

We offer to work with Arab schools in Israel, Palestinian schools, schools supervised by the UNRWA in the
Palestinian refugees’ camps of Cisjordania, in Gaza and neighbouring countries. We would aslo like to work
jointly with non-formal educational structures, such as the Canaan Institute in Gaza.

During our conference in Ramallah, we will explain how ICT can greatly contribute to opening up the
Palestinian educational system. Latent conflict and open war, lock-down and blockade of entire regions of
Palestine, checkpoints...such situations can only hinder regularity in education, hence the strategic
importance of developing ICT-based learning in Palestine. The e-learning platforms that have been set up in
Palestinian universities such as Al-Aqsa in Gaza and Bir Zeit in Cisjordania may be used on a larger scale
and in other types of school and higher education systems. We are experts in integrating ICT into pedagogy
and providing blended and distant learning.

Below are a number of initiatives we would like to launch and to do so we wish to create partnerships in
Palestine and France:

✗ Training of trainers for Palestinian teachers and trainers

✗ Twinning with schools all over the world
✗ Development of foreign language training programs
✗ Promotion and transmission of Palestinian culture and history by creating online educational
resources
✗ In the longer term, we would like to see the opening of summer camps for Palestinian students and
teachers in Europe, for European students in Palestine, etc.
