I have been committed to business for some years now. My first degree was in Management
with Information Systems from the University of Leeds, I then received an MSc in Business
Information Technology and a PhD in Business both from the University of Manchester. I was
also an army engineer officer and had internships in a bank and an accounting firm. More
pertinent to what we are doing here is that I have been teaching business in higher education
for eight years now. In addition to this university I have taught at the University of Manchester
and the University of Mannheim.
I have been teaching online for four years now on various programmes including one MOOC. I
have also experienced online education as a student as I have attended three courses online
that took four months together. I appreciate the challenges students face online but I also
appreciate how you will become better professionals when you overcome them to become
effective and enjoy your work.
In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors, watching sports and using whatever
technology or gadget I can get my hands on.

Style of Supervision
While the dissertation is the students work it is important that as an advisor I review their work
give them feedback. I don’t want to be overbearing but I want to make sure it has the highest
possibility of success. The delivery is as important as the information conveyed and the end
product must be current and of master level at this reputable university. I can answer questions
12
but it is more effective if the student gives me something to review and respond. I try to adapt
to the student’s needs but I certainly want to see a significant effort to create something that
represents the culmination of your university education.

Being an academic hasn’t kept me away from professional practice. I have been offering
consultancy to companies to various companies on topics of my expertise. An academic
should have an overall knowledge of his/her discipline which makes the blend between
theory and practice necessary.
Finally as I’ve been undertaking University leadership positions for the last 5 years (i.e. Deputy
Programme Leader, Academic Advisor, Programme Leader) I have been taking extremely
seriously my pastoral care responsibilities. All students have different responsibilities, needs
and sensitivities that (occasionally) have to be addressed.

Research Interests
My research focuses on almost each and every aspect of Public Relations (Sponsorship, Crisis
Management, Online PR, CSR, PR Measurement, International PR and Education & PR). My
main areas of investigation are considered Corporate Social Responsibility, Sponsorship and
Crisis Management with Meenaghan and Coombs being (among others) the top researchers on
my list in each area respectively. In addition Relationship Management is also one of the main
20
fields of my research interests and “maybe” the only way out of PR’s immeasurability.
Public Relations measurement has been high in my research agenda ever since I started my PhD
in 2003.
Overall, due to my research I have developed strong links with both practitioners and academics
of the field of Public Relations and Corporate Communication.
My research interests in many cases exceed the above areas when I sense that there is
important social impact behind a research initiative (for this reason in the past I have worked on
papers focusing on Gender Equality, Woman Entrepreneurship, Costly Diseases and more).
Style of Supervision
I do not have a “one size for all” supervision schedule; however my recommendation is to meet
occasionally with my student (following of course University time regulations) in order to
determine that the student is on track and most importantly to discuss progress and research
directions.

Research Interests
My broad research interests lie in the areas of corporate finance, institutional investing and
corporate governance. My current research agenda focuses more specifically on investments,
corporate restructurings and entrepreneurial finance. During my career I have supervised over 60
dissertations, half of which have been at graduate level. The topics that I supervised include
finance, corporate governance, accounting and entrepreneurship related topics.
Style of Supervision
Through my experience I believe that a good dissertation advisor should be able to create a
supportive environment where the student will feel comfortable to liaise continuously knowing
that the advisor is always accessible. I tend to ask students to stick to the mutually agreed
deadlines and seek for feedback often enough so as to achieve their prescribed goals.
Encouragement, timely responses, acknowledgment of the difficulties students’ face are all
imperative for a fruitful collaboration.

Research Interests
My research interests are in the field of Operations and Supply chain management. Much of my recent
focus has been on sustainable supply chains as well as how technology enables interaction and business-
to-business relationships within the supply chain. My research has increasingly examined Supply chain
management within the context of developing economies which is driven not just by increasing
globalisation but also by a need to improve the quality of life. This emerging theme has enabled me to
build strong research collaborations with academic colleagues in Asia, Africa and the Centre for
Organisational Excellence Research (COER) at Massey University in New Zealand. A separate theme of
my research is in the field of total quality management with a particular focus on benchmarking and
business excellence.
Style of Supervision
I am a supportive supervisor that believes in regular contact with my dissertations students. I also
encourage my students to develop critical analysis skills in order to improve their academic contribution
and distinguish their dissertation. My approach aims to enable my students carry out the best project that
they are capable of.

Apart from teaching, she has also an experience in supervising bachelor and master theses. The
topics of dissertations defended by her students vary from the area of eco-innovations through
corporate social responsibility up to crisis management. The thesis of Fabian Klein, supervised
by Justyna, has been awarded by the Rector of Kozminski University. The main findings of the
thesis were published in the academic journal Archives of Waste Management and
Environmental Protection, vol.15, no. 1 (2013) within the article entitled “Implementing Supply
of Wind Energy – international comparisons of best practices and shortcomings”.
108
Justyna is also an active academic researcher. She has been granted several post-doctoral
scholarships. At the Yale School of Management (US), which she has been visiting from August
2010- January 2011 she conducted research project where she addressed sustainability issues at
the micro level by providing the new way of corporate sustainability assessment as a
combination of proper management of all major areas of the firm’s activities – financial, social
and environmental – at the same time. The results of her project have been accepted for an oral
presentation during the 17th annual conference of the International Sustainable Development
Research Society (ISDRS) hosted by the Earth Institute at the Columbia University. At the
Corvinus University of Budapest, which she visited in February 2012, she participated in “The
knowledge based economy in Hungary, the conditions for strengthening the innovative
approach and increasing the R&D performance” project, financed by the European Union, and
conducted research on “Innovative consumption patterns as a way to manage the
environmental challenges facing society and business”. She also has been recognised as an
Honorary Research Fellow in the University in the Liverpool Management School from 1 June
2012 to 31 December 2013.
She is an author of articles and research papers on the greening of industry, connections between
environmental quality and economic growth and international environmental management.

Style of Supervision
Justyna has experience in teaching and supervising full-time and part-time students in different
countries and cultures. Thus, is highly flexible in employing various methods and apply different
approaches in order to meet the students' needs and expectations. Her experience in working
with students from different countries, perfectly equipped her to deal with multicultural
environment and cross-cultural differences. She is capable of finding a perfect approach and
understanding for every participant, regardless his/her race, age or sex. She never discriminates.
She does not separate herself from the students. She presents the concepts, ideas and problems
with simple, understandable language, regardless its sophisticated theory. She always supports
the theory with practical examples. She trains and supervise future entrepreneurs and
businessman, thus she is focused on the practical side of academic knowledge.
Upon request, she customizes the sequence of working on different sections of the dissertation,
although always she requires to begin with the literature review on the chosen research topic.
She emphasizes the importance of timelines and deadlines and thus always make a schedule of
writing different sections with clearly set deadlines (some flexibility is possible within a
reasonable time frame). Justyna responds students' inquiries quickly and with easy to
understand comments. Upon request, when difficulties arise, she is open to direct consultations
via skype.

I am a Programme Leader at a UK university where I have been working since 2004. I previously worked
in advertising, pharmaceuticals and the charity sector. I started my advertising career at Grey
Worldwide, a New York based global advertising agency, and progressed to become Senior Account
Director at PUBLICIS Groupe and Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising. I worked with organisations (Nestlé,
P&G, etc.) of varied size and nature of business, both in the commercial and non-profit sector. In the
pharmaceuticals sector, I worked in Rhone Poulenc Rorer, which is now known as Sanofi-aventis after a
merger. Because of my interest in the non-profit sector and entrepreneurship in the later stage of
professional career, I held a National Lottery funded position in Swindon (UK) in the charity sector for
some time and was a shareholding director of a limited company as well.

Style of Supervision
The first thing is to understand the strength and weaknesses of the dissertation student and then
consider those of both the advisor and the student to select an achievable research target. The advisor
is keen to utilize the modern communication technology for continuous communication between the
student and him because without continuous communication a dissertation may become a
frustration. To him, continuous communication also facilitates continuous motivation for the
student for preparing the research proposal and implementing the research in a timely manner. The
advisor considers the research student as a young scholar. He suggests the ways and helps to locate
the necessary resources to improve and progress with all required components of the dissertation.
Dr. Mohan likes to celebrate the success of the dissertation student as a joint achievement.
