COURSE SUMMARY:
Math support is a class designed to help students that struggle with math. Our goal is to work with students to fill in
gaps that were developed in elementary school so that they grow in their math skills and are able to complete grade
level work. We will also use class time to preview and review some of the more difficult standards the students will be
covering in their math class. There is no set curriculum for this class because each student has a different need, and a set
curriculum won't be able to fill individual gaps. We will assess each student and build a curriculum based on the
individual needs for individual classes.

STUDENT AGENDA:
1. Warm Up: Completed during the “First Five”
2. Instruction: Guided - demonstrations, note-taking, using manipulatives
Independent – various activities which may include technology
3. Closure: Formative Assessment

TEXT AND RESOURCES:

Because the course is so individualized, the teacher will provide any resources that a student needs. There will also be
resources uploaded on the blog on a regular basis.

CLASSROOM MATERIALS:
 Paper and pencil
 Index cards
 Calculator – TI-30XS
 Any other materials needed for math support will be provided by the teacher.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
Students are expected to enter the classroom quietly and begin their daily warmup problems promptly. Students are
expected to be respectful to themselves, others, and school property and materials. Students are expected to try their
very best, show excellent work, and to dedicate their time to learning. Students are expected to have their agendas (not
another student) with them at all times and will not be able to leave the room without it signed by a staff member.

UNITS OF STUDY (1st Semester):

Math Support units will closely align with the corresponding grade level's math class' units of study. The standards seen
on each student’s general math syllabus, will be the standards used in this class to guide instruction

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT:
The students will have formative assessments which will include warm-ups, exit tickets, quizzes, independent work, class
discussions, study guides, and projects. There will be no summative assessments in math support.

HOMEWORK POLICY:
Homework will be strongly encouraged as a means of practicing newly taught skills, reviewing previously mastered skills,
developing independent study habits, or to extend and enrich the curriculum. Completing homework is also strongly
encouraged as a means of preparing for class discussions, class work, quizzes, and tests. Some students may need more
preparation than others, and some assignments may be noted as required and will be expected to be completed by all
students.
GRADING AND REPORTING:
