Remove & Install Flywheel

Start By:

a. remove torque converter *

Refer to the Power Train Disassembly And Assembly section of the Service Manual.

1. Remove two of bolts (1) and install tooling (A).

2. Remove the remainder of bolts (1) and slide flywheel (2) on tooling (A). Fasten a nylon strap
and a hoist. Remove tooling (A) and lower flywheel (2) to the ground. The weight of the
flywheel is 102 kg (225 lb.).

3. If necessary, remove ring gear (3) from flywheel (2).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the flywheel.

4. If ring gear (3) was removed, heat the ring gear to a maximum temperature of 320° C (608°
F). Install the ring gear on the flywheel with the tooth chamfer toward the engine when the
flywheel is installed.

5. Install the flywheel in the reverse order of removal.

NOTICE

Make sure the dash mark on the flywheel is in alignment with the dash
mark on the crankshaft when the flywheel is installed.

6. Put 2P2506 Thread Lubricant on the threads of bolts (1) before assembly.

7. Use tooling (B) and tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 800 ± 30 N·m (590 ± 22 lb. ft.). It may be
necessary to prevent the engine from rotating when bolts (1) are tightened.

8. Check the flywheel runout. Refer to Specifications for 3508 Vehicular Engine for further
information.

End by:

a. install torque converter *
