WHAT IS ADVANCED DIGITAL MEDIA?

This course is the second in a services of courses that provides students with industry
knowledge and skills in the overall digital media design field. Areas covered in this
course include graphics, animation, audio, video, and web design. An emphasis is placed
on the fundamental concepts of graphic design, various digital media technologies, non-
linear editing, product development and design, and career development. Art, English
language arts, and mathematics are reinforced.

CTE POST-ASSESSMENT:
Advanced Digital Media has a required state mandated final exam (CTE Post-
Assessment) at the end of the semester. This will count as 20% of the student’s final
grade. To be proficient a student must make a 70 or higher. This exam will take a good
deal of preparation prior to the final. Throughout the semester the students will take
chapter quizzes/tests using QTL Moodle, an online testing tool. The exam only covers
the notes and quizzes we cover in class, not software.

SMART LUNCH 2.0:

Most students do not have the software at home that we use in class and cannot be
expected to obtain the software. Smart Lunch 2.0 has students report back after their
3rd Period class is done to the assigned class’s SMART Lunch offering each day of the
week. Example: Monday (1st period), Tuesday (2nd Period), Wednesday (3rd Period),
Thursday (4th Period), Friday (Club Day/Any Period). Students check in/sign in and then
those students who either are currently sitting with a D or an F for the class or who may
need to make up any missed assignments will remain for the entirety of the 1 st Half of
lunch. If a student who needs to stay because of a failing grade (D or F) or that needs to
make up work skips/does not check into SMART Lunch, they will be counted as skipping
and disciplinary action will be assigned just as if they were skipping a regular class
period.

CTE MAKE-UP WORK POLICY:

When a student misses class due to an absence, the student is expected to make-up
missed assignments. The student is responsible for getting the missed assignments
from the teacher and scheduling times to make-up tests. All assignments will be listed
on Moodle or Weebly. If for any reason a student has missed class they can follow along
through our class website.

Students who have an excused absence have five school days to complete missed
assignments to receive full credit. Without prior approval, a maximum of seventy
percent credit may be received after the five days; however no make-up work may be
submitted within one week of the quarter ending unless the student is absent during
the last two weeks of the current quarter.
***Extenuating circumstances will be decided by teacher discretion.

LATE WORK:
Work is due on the assigned date. If the assignment is not complete you must utilize
SMART lunch days to finish in order to receive full credit. A student will lose 10% of the
project’s grade for each day an assignment is late if they fail to attend SMART lunch.

CELL PHONE AND HEADPHONE POLICY:

Cell phone pouches should be placed on student desks if at all possible. If a child
chooses to keep phone in their bookbag and never gets it out - no problem.

No earbuds should be worn in the classroom. Cell phones may not be used to listen to
music during class. If students want to listen to music, the teacher may play music for
them.

When cell phones are not permitted to be out, students shall store their phones in the
red pouches. If they violate this rule, then level 1 consequences for insubordination will
be applied.

Cell phones should not be left in the pouches when a student goes to the restroom, but
when the student returns from using the restroom they need to return their phone to
their cell phone pouch.

LRHS HONOR CODE:

The students of Leesville Road High School are committed to being honest and
responsible in the completion of academic materials and interactions with the school
administration and community. Cheating, stealing, plagiarism (passing off another’s
work, words, or ideas as one’s own), and lying (including willful distortion or
misrepresentation) are considered violations of the Honor Code. Through a joint
fulfillment of this code, students and faculty will achieve their fullest potential in
academic excellence and character.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:
- Come to class prepared.
- Be ready when the bell rings, which means being in class on time.
- Be Respectful; Respect yourself, the lab, and your fellow students.
- Treat all equipment with care and respect
- Computers are for classroom work only, not Twitter or YouTube or any other
sites that do not relate to class.
- IMPORTANT: It is expected that every student in this class will make a grade
of at least a C or better. With the opportunities given in this class for a good
grade, there is no reason any student’s grade to fall below a C. Therefore, if
your grade does fall below a C, the student is REQUIRED to spend tutorial
time during SMART lunch to bring the grade up. Please see the Student
Handbook for more information.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES:

system has only 2 types of assignments; required and optional. At the end of the
quarter (and again at the semester), your percentage grade will be determined by
dividing your points earned by the sum total of the required points.

Examples of required assignments are:

Quizzes (0-25 pts each)
Tests (75-100 pts each)
Small Projects (25-50 pts each)
Large Projects (75-100 pts each)

Examples of optional assignments are:

Test correction (up to half the points missed on a test)
Additional “extra credit” opportunities as they present themselves (0-25 pts)
