PRELIMINARY

A. BACKGROUND

Language plays an important role in human life. One seeks to acquire,

study and use language as a means of communication, and simultaneously as a
social symbol of humanity. By using language one can make statements, convey
facts and knowledge, explain or report something, and maintain social
relationships between language users. This shows that by using language, people
can express their ideas, feelings, information etc. through communication. As a
global or universal language, English not only allows us to communicate and
interact with everyone around the world, but it can also change our lives for the
better. In addition, we must also realize that the western countries play an
extraordinary role in developing and maintaining science and technology.
o, if we want to be skilled scientists, linguists, and able to compete with other
countries in the world, we must understand, master and learn the language they
use, that is English. Lastly, I study English at school, college or university,
remember that getting 'A' in English is almost worthless, in terms of
communication, if we can not speak the language. Spoken English is used in the
best careers, the best universities, and is increasingly used in job interviews. So
like it or not, English is a very important language to learn how to talk. But
knowing I learned English from elementary school to college, can not make me
speak fluent in English.

English is the language of the world and is also widely used language on
the internet. Almost every language book has been translated English version. So
it's easy to get the world's information if you know English. English is important
to me because English is an International language. We must prepare ourselves
for the era of globalization. Today, many companies recruit their employees with
a proficiency test in English. We can get more and more information on the
Internet, but 80% information on the Internet uses English. I've heard that smart
people are people who can use a particular language. People must know several
languages, at least they can use two languages, National language and
International language. The national language is for communication for fellow
nations and international languages for communication to people from other
countries. Regional languages are important for communicating with people from
the same area, but today we rarely use local languages. By following learning b.
English in this semester I got a lot of knowledge to speak English.
