INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN OF PROPOSED CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL

DEVELOPMENT (CPD) PROGRAM

I. Course/Program Title: FIVE-DAY MID-YEAR IN-SERVICE TRAINING (INSET) FOR TEACHERS

October 22-26, 2018

II. Course/Program Brief description:

This is a Formal Face-to-Face In-Service Training Program among 266 Teaching Personnel of Moalboal District of
the Division of Cebu Province. Participants are Elementary and Secondary teachers in the district who are performing
teaching related functions.
The In-Service Training Program incorporates education issues/topics, current researches and new teaching
pedagogies and concepts or literature pertaining to teaching and learning, specifically the Philippine Professional Standards for
Teachers (PPST) and Results-based Performance Management System (RPMS).
This program intends to develop and equip the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values of the Elementary and
Secondary Teachers of Moalboal District in the Division of Cebu Province. It envisions to develop teachers’ effectiveness by
orienting them through a systematic series of activities that reinforce both content and pedagogical skills.
Being competent and well-performing teacher is one of the most important resources in any educational institution. The
teacher is considered the professional agent and the most directly responsible person in the process of learning; he is the one in
charge of making/helping students learn and benefit or suffer from the quality of his teaching. That is why Teachers’ professional
training and professional development is a necessary ingredient to support innovative and beneficial teaching. Thus, this training
is designed.
III. Proposed PQF Level: Level 7

IV. Particular Continuing Professional Competencies:

The In-Service Training Program for Elementary and Secondary teachers of Moalboal District in the Division of Cebu
Province is necessary so that they will be oriented about PPST and RPMS and other related tasks as part of their Key Result
Areas. This is also an avenue for them to be equipped in relation to DepEd Vision, Mission and Core Values.
The DepEd recognizes the importance of professional standards in the continuing professional development and
advancement of teachers based on the principle of a lifelong learning. It is committed to supporting teachers and taking
cognizance of unequivocal evidence that good teachers are vital to raising students’ achievement. Quality learning is contingent
to quality teaching. Hence, enhancing teachers’ quality becomes of utmost importance for long term and sustainable nation
building.
In order to support these thrusts and to answer the needs of the Elementary and Secondary teachers to be equipped
with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes in performing their respective duties and responsibilities, this program is
hereby designed.

At the end of the program, the participants should be able to:

- Understand and appreciate the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) and the RPMS Manual for Teachers
and School Heads;
- Recognize the importance of teachers’ mastery of content knowledge and its interconnectedness within and across
curriculum areas, coupled with a sound and critical understanding of the application of theories and principles of teaching
and learning.
