Lesson 8: The Story of Nian.

 
 
nián de gù shì 
          
1. yǒu yī zhī guài shòu, tā  2. yī nián zhōng, tā dà bù  3. měi nián, nóng lì shé èr 
jiào nián.  fèn de shí jiān  zài shuì  yuè, tā huì xǐng lái.

There was a monster, called  In a year, it spent most of the  Every year, in the lunar 
NIAN.  time sleeping.   December, it would wake up.  

4. tā xǐng lái de shí hòu, dù  5. tā huì chī diào jī, niú, tù  6. rén men dōu hěn hài pà. 

zi hǎo è hǎo è.  zi, shèn zhì huì chī diào

It would eat the chick, ox, and  People were all scared.  
When it woke up, it was so 
bunny. It even ate people.  
hungry.  

7. dàn shì, nián hài pà sān  9. rén men chuān shàng  10. rén men diǎn qǐ huǒ. 

yàng dōng xi­­­­  hóng sè de yī fu.   
8. hóng sè, huǒ, hé chǎo 
nào de dōng xi.

  People put on red clothes.   People put up the fire. 
However, NIAN was afraid of 
three things­ Red, Fire, and 
Loud Noise.  

11. rén men fàng biān pào.  12. nián hài pà jí le.  13. tā táo huí le shān lín, 

  14. zài yě bù gǎn lái le. 

   
     
NIAN is so scared.  
People set up the fire 
crackers.    
It ran back to the forest, and 
dare not to come back again.  

15. zhè yàng, měi nián  16. rén men dōu huì chuān  17. zhè jiù shì nián de gù 

nóng lì shí èr yuè,  shàng hóng sè de yī fu,  shì.  
  fàng yān huā, fàng biān

  This is the story of NIAN.  
     
People would put on red 
 
clothes, set up the fireworks 
So, in every lunar December,  
and firecrackers.
