Figure 1-6 describes the interconnectivity between the SMAM II Detector, High Voltage
Power Supply and DC/AC Module, as well as the reference for each connector. The pinout
of each connector is detailed in the following sections.
All connections should use shielded wire or shielded multi-conductor cables.

2. System Interface
The System Interface connector is AMP 787171-5. Table 1-4 describes the signals
allocated on each pin. The pins marked reserved should not be connected and should be
left at high-impedance. The functions of these signals are described in section.

Chapter 1. Block Diagrams
The suggested cable to be used is Belden cable 9540-060 and connectors AMP 1-
643814-0. All pins are connected 1 to 1 on both connectors.
The suggested cable for use is Belden cable 5500FE-U1000-8. The connector at one
end is MOLEX 43645-0300 with contacts 43030-0007 and the connector at the other end
is 643814-2. Table 1- shows the required connections.

1. DC Motor Control
The DC Motor controls the compression force depending on breast size, density and
thickness with the Location Encoder (Location Information) and compression sensor
(compression force).
2. Data Display
The compression force and compressed breast thickness data are displayed on the FND
and the 7 inch TFT LCD (RS-232 Control).
4. DATA Connection
The Press Control board is connected to the acquisition workstation and the LCD monitor.
(PRESS <-> W/S(RS-232), PRESS <-> LCD(RS-232)).

3.1.2 Preparation
Be sure to turn the system off before removing the cover.
3.1.3 Procedure
1. Remove the nine screws as indicated in Figure 3-1 on the front cover of Acquisition
Workstation.
2. Disconnect the two cooling Fan power connectors inside the cover and remove the front
cover.

3. Press the blue Head button on the Gantry Head to activate the Stereotactic Biopsy
Mode and rotate the head 45° from the upright position (0°).
4. Remove the two screws on the back of the Compression Cover. (See Figure 3-12.)
5. Remove the six screws on the front side of the Compression Cover.

7. Remove the two screws on the bottom of the Compression Cover (See Figure 3-14.).
8. Remove the four screws on the Bottom Detector Cover (See Figure 3-15.)
3.8.2 Preparation
Be sure to turn the system off before removing the cover.
3.8.3 Procedure
1. Remove the Face Shield bracket (See Figure 3-16.).
2. Remove the two screws on the inner side of the Gantry Head (See Figure 3-17.)
3. Remove the two screws on the back of the Head Cover (see Figure 3-18.)
4. Disconnect the Cooling Fan power connector and remove the X-ray Tube Head Cover.
3. 9 Generator Cover
3.9.1 Tools

Be sure to turn the system off before removing the cover.
3.9.3 Procedure
1. Remove the four screws at the bottom of the Generator Cover and remove the Generator
Cover by lifting up.

1. Disconnect the power connector and communication connector and remove the four
screws (see Figure 4-1.).
2. Remove the Workstation Monitor.

1. Be sure to turn the system off before removing the keyboard and mouse.
2. Remove the Workstation Front Cover before removing the keyboard and mouse.
4.2.3 Procedure
1. Disconnect the Keyboard cord or Mouse connector from the PC.

2. To remove the keyboard and mouse, pull the wires out through their respective holes in
the Workstation Upper Cover.

1. Be sure to turn the system off before proceeding.
2. Remove the Bucky before proceeding.
3. Remove the Bottom Detector Cover before proceeding.
4. Due to the fact that the Detector is very sensitive to electricity and impact, perform the
procedure with extreme care.
4.4.3 Procedure
1. Remove the two screws on the left and right side of Protecting Cover and open the
Protection Cover.
3. Disconnect the cooling Fan power connector connected to the bottom of the Detector
and remove the four screws (See Figure 4-9.)

4) Repeat Step 2) ~3) for removing the lower Handle Switch.
5) Remove the Side Handle.
6) Repeat Step 1) ~5) for removing another Side Handle.

2. Bottom Handle
1) Rotate the C-ARM to 90° from zero (the C-ARM should be perpendicular to the ground)
to perform the procedure.
2) Remove the five screws and separate the Bottom Handle Cover.
3) Remove the four screws (two on the right and two on the left) and remove the Bottom
Handle.

5.2.2 Preparation
1. The Generator must be calibrated before the Detector is calibrated.

3. Remove the Grid Bucky and check that the surface of the Detector is clean.
4. Check that the Pegasus Calibration files exist.

2. Calibration
1) Click the “Make Cal. From Acq” button to start Calibration.
2) Automatic Exposures will be performed during the Calibration.
3. Enter the ID and Password in the Maintenance Login window and click OK.

4. The Maintenance Mode window will show up on the screen as shown in Figure 6-3.
1. From Holder: The height at which the Compression Paddle is released is calculated from
the Detector Holder (Bucky).
2. From Breast: The height at which the Compression Paddle is released is calculated from
the patient’s breast.
4. In the Magni. Paddle Scale option, select the magnification size (x1.5 and x1.8 buttons)
for the installed magnification platform.
5. Lower the Magnification Paddle to barely touch the platform (zero point) using the Foot
Switch.
6. Click the End button and remove the Magnification Platform and paddle.
3. Select the desired Compression Force (kg) from the drop-down menu.
4. Place a towel or cloth on the Detector Cover to protect the surface of the cover.
5. Center an electronic scale laterally on the Detector and position it so one of the sides is
aligned with the chestwall (anterior) side of the Detector.
6. Place a tennis ball on the end of the electronic scale and compress the ball with the
Compression Paddle (See Figure 6-15.)
10. If the two results in the Electronic Scale Display and Brestige Main Display are different,
adjust the resistance of Press Control Board so that the value in the Main Display
matches the value of the Electronic Scale Display. (See Fig. 6-17)

1. Lower the Compression Paddle until it touches the Bucky without compression (zero
point).
2. Click the Start button next to Compression Paddle Height Calibration.
4. Once you click the End button, the Compression Paddle will move up and calculate the
height automatically.
Figure 6-21 shows the Compression Paddles that correspond to the Modes.

Additional options such as Lamp Timeout Limit, DE-Comp Height Limit, and Compression
max value can be adjusted from the “Etc.” Box.
6.9 Generator
The Generator conditions are displayed and the settings are adjusted in this window (reset,
reboot options).
6.9.2 Reset
Click the ‘Reset’ button to reset the Generator information.
6.9.3 Reboot
Click the ‘Reboot’ button to reboot the Generator System.
6.10 C-ARM
3. The coordinates of C-Arm zero position are calculated automatically and clicking the End
button saves the values.
