Vocabulary

a plaintiff: the person who starts the lawsuit


► to sue someone: to accuse someone of having broken the law

a defendant: the person who is sued, who has to defend him/herself

a court of law: the place where lawyers, defendants and plaintiffs try the case
► trial

a visual aid: an item which is used to visually illustrate a point

a homemaker: a person whose job is taking care of the home and/or children
► the “old” term for this used to be housewife

to complain – a complaint

to damage: the harm done to a person, or to property

a vehicle: another word for a car, or automobile

frightened: scared

a priority: that which is most important, valuable

to live off somebody: to be financially dependent on somebody

to put someone out of his/her misery: to end something which is unpleasant

negligence: the act of not being responsible, of not caring
