The universal drop weight tester for materials Advantages and features
testing Operator-friendly
Testing at low impact speeds of 2.2 m/s requires a
larger drop weight; if testing at 6.6 m/s is required, • Excellent test area accessibility
acceleration is necessary. This drop weight tester caters • No manual opening of safety devices in test area
for both situations, making it the perfect instrument to • Easy, manual feed of cooled specimens
satisfy the requirements of a wide range of automotive • Fast, safe, easy changeover between different config‐
industry specification standards. The feed and safety urations
concept provides optimum operator convenience and • Automatic series mode in testXpert III allows series
safety. With this drop weight tester pre-conditioned test testing with no operator intervention between indi‐
plates can be inserted and impacted in less than five vidual specimens
seconds, allowing many puncture tests to be performed • Automatic lubrication of striker
without the need to install a temperature chamber. The
Reliable test results
instrument can also be used for CAI, Charpy and Izod
tests. • High natural measuring frequency enables accurate
test results.
Range of application
• High data acquisition rate (4MHz) for all measurement
• Puncture tests on plastics to ISO 6603-2 and ASTM channels allows excellent resolution for measured
D3763 curves.
• Accelerated puncture tests on plastics in accordance • Large transient memory allows measured values for
with various automotive standards brittle and ductile materials to be stored at full resolu‐
• Puncture tests on plastic films to ISO 7765-2, ASTM tion.
D7192, ASTM D4272 • Full coverage of AITM 1.008 energy ranges.
• Pre-damaging fiber composites (CAI) as per ASTM
D7136, prEN 6038 and AITM 1.0010.

Accessories required
Tup holder and weights
The tup holder, including modular weight set up to 40 kg and associated dampers, is required for mulitaxial
puncture tests. The CIA testing equipment is required for pre-damaging fiber-composite plates. The two sets of
equipment can be interchanged by the customer, allowing both tests to be performed on one drop weight tester.
