Indonesia Oil and Gas Potential
“Oil & Gas Indonesia 2013 Many Indonesian basins have yet to be extensively explored for oil and gas
provides a good gateway into
deposits, making for potentially large additional reserves. While the main
the Indonesian market for the
UK manufacturers.” producing fields are currently in Sumatra and East Kalimantan (for gas), the
Ms. Laura Tavernor, focus for exploration is moving eastwards and offshore. The most significant
Energy Industries Council (EIC)
discovery in recent history, the ExxonMobil-operated Cepu block in East and
Central Java, is believed to hold some 600 million barrels of oil and 48 billion
cubic meters of gas.
Indonesia is ranked sixth in the world for CBM reserves with a potential 453
trillion cubic feet and has potential shale gas reserves of around 574 trillion
cubic feet (Tcf), compared with proven conventional gas reserves of 106 Tcf.
CBM exploration and development has intensified in Indonesia in recent
years, particularly since the first Production Sharing Contracts were
awarded in 2008. The timing for further exploration into CBM is ideal with
natural gas prices increasing on the global market and PLN actively
searching out cheaper fuel alternatives.

The Exhibition
Since the launch of OGI in 1995 the exhibition has grown to reflect the size
and importance of the Indonesian oil market. OGI 2013 was the largest in the
events history attracting 777 exhibiting companies from 44 countries and
7 group pavilions.
