September 2018
Dear parents and carers,

We hope you had a great Summer break! This letter is designed to let you know about the
topics for this term and to inform you about homework, PE and swimming.

This term our learning will revolve around the theme of ‘ Time Travellers’. The challenge
question for the school is:

How can we share a historic moment in
time?

Each class will create an art gallery about a historic moment in time. In year 1 we will be
learning, acting and creating collages about Nelson and HMS Victory.

▪ As  Historians  we  will  research  Nelson,  the  Battle  of Trafalgar and the importance of Greenwich in
their story.
▪ As  Scientists  we  will  investigate  materials  and  explore  their  properties  in  the  context  of
boat-building and life on board HMS Victory.
▪ As  Geographers  we  will  learn  how  to use maps to locate important places in Nelson and Victory’s
journey.
▪ As  Artists  we  will  sketch  seascapes  and  create  collages  of  Nelson  and  HMS  Victory  inspired  by
mudlarking and Van Gogh.
▪ As  Users  of  Technology  we  will  create  a  documentary-style  film  and  also  an  e-invite  to  its
premier.

the following Tuesday.

the book. This is paid through Parent Pay under ‘New book donation’. We welcome any other
