even complicated designs faster, easier and better. Additionally, technicians can now save their design at any step, to store intermediate
designs or save their applied design steps for future use.
• A new version of Smile Design – a new powerful solution for very fast and easy creation of digital smile designs –
with photo-realistic simulation to show the patient.
• Greatly improved removable prosthetics, enabling you to make flexible partial dentures and improvements to full denture design.

The E scanner series – now scan the bite
directly in the articulator
With the new 3Shape Articulator holder, you can now insert the articulator into the scanner
to scan the bite directly. You can decide case by case if you want to scan the bite in an articulator,
skip the bite scan using transfer plates, skip the bite scan using the occlusion setup tool or simply
scan the bite normally if the cases is not in a large articulator.

Ready to expand your lab’s offering? Supplement your solution with add-ons
or purchase CAD points to use on a case-by-case basis for indications
not included in your package. CAD points can be used for anything you do not
have a license for, whether it’s an add-on or e.g. a feature that you do not have
the package for.

Scanning
Scan the bite directly in the articulator
With the new 3Shape Articulator holder, you can now insert the articulator into the scanner to scan the bite directly.
Simply place the articulator in the scanner and scan the bite, to get the right static occlusion.

Crowns and bridges
Multi-scan handling
The new flexible scan handling allows technicians to combine an unlimited number of scans to make even complicated designs faster,
easier and better. Add intraoral scans, pre-preparation scans, bite, or face scans, as well as designs from other orders, and apply alignment
and visualization tools as needed. Additionally, technicians can now save their design at any step, to store intermediate designs or save
their applied design steps for future use.
In scope of these changes, the Prepare step was activated for all types of indications. Now the occlusal plane setup
influences the design more to provide better initial designs. Occlusion changes are now done only in the virtual articulator.
Some beta testers have reported that this takes a little getting used to.

Bring to contact tool Double speed bridges and bars

Automatically snap the crown to the antagonist or neighboring
teeth providing precise contact. The tool will move the tooth,
not stretch it.
The automatic creation and positioning of connectors is now
faster and better than ever. This will increase your productivity
when making bridges and bars. Some beta testers reported that
the new way of working with connectors takes a little getting
used to, but is better.

Stronger contact and smoothing tool
Designing contacts and smoothing with the Sculpt tool
has been redeveloped for a faster and more consistent
design experience.
Virtually remove existing teeth
The “Tooth Extraction” tool allowing to remove teeth
from the scan has been added to the Sculpt on jaw step
in Dental Designer for all indications.
See the shade of the stump
TRIOS shade measurement feature has been updated with
a Stump shade functionality. It allows to acquire the shade from
a prepared tooth and use it for the restoration color selection.
Better control of margin line
The edge of the restoration is displayed during design
to better control your margin line connection.
Improved margin line inspection
The “Local cross section” feature is now available showing the
window with the local cross section when the user is placing
the margin line. The feature can be toggled in the Control Panel.
COMING with TRIOS:
Improve designs using patient specific motion
Dental System 2018 supports the patient specific motion feature from
TRIOS scans. This allows to use the exact recorded articulated motion
of the patient’s jaws to adapt designs for perfect dynamic occlusion –
as opposed to using standard values from the virtual articulator.
Available when released with the TRIOS scanners.

Removable Partial Dentures
Easily create flexible partial dentures
It is now possible to design flexible partial dentures with
denture teeth.
The new “Create pockets for teeth” tool identifies the optimal
insertion direction for every tooth and creates an undercut
free pocket in the frame.
To manufacture the teeth in-house it’s possible to easily
output the files (Applies to libraries that are approved for local
manufacturing)
New tools for scan adjustment
When designing removable partial dentures it is now possible
to remove artifacts from preparation scans, extract teeth and do
plane cuts in a new workflow step with the scan sculpt toolkit.
After using the "Copy and append design" functionality, the position
and insertion of attachments from the primary structure, can be
used in the order for the secondary structure.
This improves the “Secondary structure” workflow for
automatic positioning of attachment matrices from the updated
Bredent© package.

Full Dentures
Dentures that meet patient’s expectations
Use the RealView engine to design dentures matching patient’s
face characteristics using the photos with the wax rim.
Verify the manufactured denture in the physical articulator
3-axis drill compensation can now be applied to the denture-base
bottom surface making it possible to fit a manufactured denture
on a gypsum model for verification.
Design using intraoral scans
It is now possible to design dentures on digital impressions
from intraoral scanners. The design software provides ability
to trim the scan and append virtual base.
A denture that does not break
With this new release it is much easier to validate the thickness
of the prosthesis using the “Minimal thickness” tool with
variable threshold.

Cost efficient manufacturing
Design and manufacture a denture prosthesis consisting of two
pieces: a denture base and a teeth arch. The latest generation
of coupling mechanism ensures good fit of the two pieces and
simplicity of gluing operation.
Custom manufactured teeth with color gradient
You can accurately control the color shades of the teeth
during design by placing the denture teeth inside
the gradient disc.

New denture teeth libraries from Kulzer

The portfolio of denture teeth libraries has been enriched by well-known Mondial 6/6i, 8/8i teeth from Kulzer. Besides Kulzer the Full
Denture software features libraries from Candulor, Ivoclar and Vertex Dental.

Scanning
• Auto adjusting scanning height of the ortho arches to have the palatal area scanned.
• Fixed opening "Copy and reuse CAD Design" for scanning with non-English languages.
• Improved coverage of the wax-up bridge scans with E scanners.
• Fixed "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" at the opening the order for scanning.
• Fixed hiding check-boxes with the text.

Design
• Dental System RealView now supports images of high resolution to better visualize the Smile Design outlines.
Depending on the graphics processor resolution limits will range between 4096 x 4096 and 8192 x 8192 pixels.
• The problem with RPD orders having several user-entered parameters reset to default values when remodeled is now solved.
• Additive attachments will now be correctly applied.
• “Align implant scan flag” step will not be missing in TRIOS orders from now on.
• Smile Composer will now correctly rebuild the model when redesigning the order if during the initial design
the smile library was chosen for a single tooth.
• “Precise cut to antagonist” tool now gives more accurate results.
• “Thickness map” visualization slider now gets its default value as the minimal material thickness value.
• Copings with lingual bands now remain with the accurate margin lines when adding attachments.
• Attachment holes are now correctly extracted for wax-up orders.
• Drill compensation settings for Full Denture base generation that have been changed in Dental Designer
are now saved when reopening the order.
• Frame parameters in RPD design, such as: blockout angle, resin gap, relief thickness and stippled wax,
that have been changed in Dental Designer are now saved when reopening the order.
• Wax Knife operations are now applied to the connection area between the RPD and pontic.
• “Symmetric design” option is now available for orders with crowns.
• It is now possible to enforce the minimum thickness for cases with subtractive attachments.
• The issue with missing handlers on connectors has been fixed.
• Die model will no longer flip upside down when selecting the “Mouse” mode on the Insertion Direction step.

Dental Manager and Control Panel

• The popup window with the sending progress will now be shown until the sending is completed when the order
is being sent to the manufacturer via the Manufacturing Inbox.
• It is now possible to generate CAM output for Removable Partial Denture cases using
the CADOutputDeguDentLocalMilling.dll manufacturing output.
• There will be no more missing orders considered too old to be received in 3Shape Communicate Inbox.
• The “External lab” field will no longer stay empty after modifying the order.
• It is now possible to use special characters for 3Shape Communicate account password.
• It is now possible to change the export folder when exporting TRIOS orders using the dongle option.
• Now implant systems will open more quickly in the Table mode in the Control Panel.

• The Dental Manager application now correctly processes the orders reset to the “Created” status or with reimported scans.
