1. Geotechnical Engineering- Geotechnical engineering is the study of the behaviour of
soils under the influence of loading forces and soil-water interactions. This
knowledge is applied to the design of foundations, retaining walls, earth dams,
clay liners, and geosynthetics for waste containment.

 Soil Mechanics- Soil mechanics, the study of the physical properties and
utilization of soils, especially used in planning foundations for structures and
subgrades for highways.
 Foundation Engineering- Foundation engineering applies the knowledge of soil
mechanics, rock mechanics, geology, and structural engineering to the design
and construction of foundations for buildings and other structures. The most
basic aspect of foundation engineering deals with the selection of the type of
foundation, such as using a shallow or deep foundation system.
