Design specification requirements:

Class of concrete ………………… A
Compressive strength ………… 20.7
Cement factor, bag/m^3 ....... 9.0
Slump, mm …………………………. 76.2

Design mix per bag of cement:

Absolute volume of concrete, m^3

Vconcrete = 1 / cement factor = 1/9 = 0/1111 m^3

Absolute volume of 40kg bag of cement, m^3 (S.G of cement = 3.15)

Ccement = Mcement / Density of cement = 40/3.15 (1000) = 0.0127 m^3

Absolute volume of water, m^3

Vwater = 178/9(1000) = 0.0198m^3 = 19.8L

Absolute volume of water and cement, m^3 (Vwater + Vcement)

Vwatercement = 0.0127 + 0.0198 = 0.0325 m^3

Absolute volume of fine aggregates, % of total aggregartes by absolute volume:

Fine Aggregates ………………………….. 41% (from Table V)

Total correction ………………………….. -2.75% (from Table of adj.)
Corrected Fine Aggregate …………… 38.25%

Absolute volume of fine aggregate, m^3 ( %Fine x Vagg. )

Vfine = 0/3825 (0.0786) = 0.0301 m^3

Absolute volume of coarse aggregates, m^3 ( Vagg. – Vfine)

Vcoarse = 0.0786 – 0.0301 = 0.0485 m^3

I. Correction on % of Fine Aggregates

1. For Water-Cement Ratio

Water / Cement = 178/9(40) = 0.494 or 495

Diff from standard =0.57-0.495 = -0.075
Correction= -(0.0075x1%)/0.05 = -(20x 0.075%) = -1.5%

2. Diff from modulus of sand (standard) =2.75-2.50 = 0.25%

Correction (from table of adjustments) =-(0.25 x 5) = -1.25%

Total Correction = -1.5% + (-1.25%) = -2.75%

Corrected % Fine Agg. = 41% - 2.75% = 38.25%

CONCLUSION:

The proportion of ingredients of concrete mixture is determined by the data in the table above
and was obtained using the data from the preliminary tests on fine and corase aggregates where Class A
conrecte and Type I Cement was used.
