Insulation Inspection Checklist: 04-98 32 4/1/1998
The Insulation Inspection Checklist is provided as a guide to individuals responsible for ensuring the
quality and completeness of an insulation job. Persons charged with making such inspections should
be experienced in the design and installation of thermal insulation and be well acquainted with the
Process Industry Practices for which the checklist was written. The checklist does not provide
sufficient information to act as a stand alone document that would allow an inexperienced person to
function as an inspector.

Allowable Piping Loads on Rotating Machinery Nozzles 12-97 70 12/1/1997
The purpose of this Practice is to provide requirements for reducing the total life cycle costs of
rotating machinery by determining allowable piping loads and piping load application to rotating
machinery.
Comment: User experience has shown that designing for the maximum published allowable loads for
most machinery results in low Mean Time Between Repair (MTBR) and higher than acceptable
maintenance costs.
Machinery
Limit the application of the entire maximum allowable nozzle load during the equipment installation
design, allowing some reserve margin to maximize the possibility of the final installation actually
remaining within the allowable loading.
Begin driving the stated, published and calculated allowable nozzle loads to become more
performance based, tied more closely to actual effects on the MTBR and Life Cycle Costs for the
machinery in order to:
Promote the highest reliability for Vital or Sensitive machinery and the determination of those 12-97 70 12/1/1997
allowable loads that will allow the achievement of that reliability
Allow spared (essential) machinery to be more heavily loaded, and encourage manufacturers to

537 Tanks VEDTA003 of tanks per API Standard 650 (hereafter referred to as API 650).
This Practice explains information to be placed on the Data Sheet primarily by Purchasers for use by
Manufacturers. However, some of the instructions apply to either the Purchaser or the Manufacturer,
depending on which party assumes certain responsibilities.
Atmospheric Storage Tank Specification (In Accordance with API Standard 650) 129 6/19/2000
Date: 06-00
Aboveground, atmospheric storage tanks shall be constructed per this Practice, PIP VEDTA003,
Atmospheric Storage Tank Data Sheet and Instructions (in Accordance with API Standard 650), and
API Standard 650 (hereafter referred to as API 650). The data sheet portion of PIP VEDTA003 will

538 Tanks VESTA002 A. This Practice establishes minimum construction requirements for the materials, design, fabrication,
erection (if applicable), inspection, and testing of aboveground, non-refrigerated storage tanks
fabricated of carbon steel or austenitic stainless steel. When neither API 650 nor this Practice
addresses material requirements for miscellaneous items and appurtenances, the Purchaser and/or
the Manufacturer shall supply additional material requirements within a supplement to the Data
Sheet.
(Continuation 1 from VESTA002) Design internal pressures of 2.5 psig or less (see API 650, 129 6/19/2000
Appendix F) and design temperature of up to 500F (see API 650, Appendix M) are permissible under
this Practice.
B. In addition to this Practice, all tanks and appurtenances shall comply with the Data Sheet and all
attachments thereto.

PIC001
A P&ID is a detailed graphical representation of a process including the hardware and
software (e.g., piping, equipment, instrumentation) necessary to design, construct and
operate the facility. Common synonyms for P&IDs include EFDs (Engineering Flow
Diagrams), UFDs (Utility Flow Diagrams) and MFDs (Mechanical Flow Diagrams). This
Practice applies to all diagrams that fit the definition of a P&ID.
The criteria presented in this Practice can be applied to whichever CAD system is
employed for developing the P&IDs and are not vendor, hardware or software specific.
PIC001
The example P&IDs included in the Appendices are not intended to recommend specific
design details or requirements. Example P&IDs are included to provide an illustration of
how the elements of the recommended Practice are combined into a P&ID.
