Water

Water availability
Siemens is a premium supplier of technologies for water and
wastewater applications. Our solutions encompass innovative
technologies and services for water treatment, irrigation and
distribution. Supported by our local Memcor® R&D and manufacturing
plant in Sydney, our expertise in water applications have set enviable
benchmarks in the water utilities and industrial markets.

Success stories include:

Siemens provided a complete turnkey installation including project management for the
electrochlorination upgrade at Verve Energy’s Cockburn Power Station. Verve Energy identified the
need to increase seawater cooling supply at these sites, which was brought about by intensified
demand by adjacent power stations. Equipment supplied included three new chloropac electrolyser
units with all associated equipment and controls to allow expansion of the existing two unit system.
Siemens also supplied an interim gas chlorination system while the electrochlorination system was
offline during the upgrade.

Siemens membrane technology is providing the Wyndham Water Treatment Plant with high quality
drinking water all year round for surrounding residents. The plant treats water for high turbidity
during cyclones and other heavy rain events, which previously washed mud and silt into the East
Kimberley town’s Moochalabra Dam. It uses micro filtration and UV disinfection, with Siemens having
supplied all of the membrane components.

Siemens membrane technology is the key to providing users in the Kwinana industrial zone with high
quality potable water. The Kwinana Water Reclamation Plant receives final effluent from the
Woodman Point Wastewater Treatment Plant and microfilters the water to produce a product suitable
for use in industrial plants. The plant has operated for eight years and has reduced the demand on
Perth’s domestic water supply.

Neerabup Power Station is an integrated, 320 MW open-cycle, gas-fired power station. The power
station is currently under construction and due to be completed in late 2009. It will be powered by
two Siemens SGT5-2000E gas turbines.

Located 30 km north of Perth in the town of Neerabup, the power station will help meet the growing
peak demands for electricity in Western Australia. Neerabup will deliver about seven percent of
Western Australia’s total electricity requirements, while also reducing the state’s carbon emissions.

Kemerton Power Station is a 300 MW open cycle gas turbine power plant that provides power into
the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) in Western Australia at times of peak demand. The
power station comprises two Siemens SGT 5-2000E gas turbines (formerly known as V94.2 machines)
and commenced commercial operation in November 2005. Siemens supplied the turbine equipment
and all associated auxiliary and supporting systems for the project.

In August 2007, customer Transfield Services announced a 40 MW upgrade to Kemerton Power

Station, increasing the power plant‘s capacity to 300 MW. Given the growing demand for power
across the country, the upgrade makes the power station more efficient by reducing greenhouse gas
emissions, while providing power for an additional 10,000 households.

The CITIC Pacific Mining Sino Iron Ore Project is a world class, large-scale magnetite iron ore project,
the first of its kind in Western Australia. It is bringing innovative, new mining processes to Australia
and is the first iron ore project to include large scale downstream processing.

The project is located in Cape Preston which is approximately 100 kilometres west of Karratha.
Siemens will supply the equipment for the 450 MW power station, including eight 47 MW gas
turbines, gearless mill drives and switchyard equipment. Our success in winning the contract is
largely based on the industry leading efficiency of these machines. The Siemens portion of the
project is set for completion in 2010.

accurate attenuation correction, precise localisation and advanced CT applications in cardiology,
oncology, and neurology. It acquires CT data in less than 30 seconds and is able to minimise patient
dose. The hospital’s nuclear medicine department also uses Siemens Biograph 16 Positron Emission
Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) scanner, the only PET/CT in Western Australia.

Hollywood Private Hospital was the first hospital in Australia to install the Siemens Artis zee cardiac
angiography laboratory which was complimented by the syngo Dynamics image archive. This provides
the cardiac suite with a common user platform, superior image quality and most importantly, lower
radiation dose for both patients and staff. The success of the first laboratory prompted the hospital to
replace their existing laboratory which was only four years old with another Artis zee. This enabled the
hospital offer the latest technology benefits from both laboratories, optimising their workflow and
clinical outcomes.

Siemens installed a 3-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner for a private radiology practice
at St John of God Hospital in Subiaco, making this the first 3T MRI scanner for this practice and the
second in Western Australia. Replacing the Siemens 1.5T scanner, the MAGNETOM Verio is the world’s
first 3T MRI which incorporates Siemens unique Total Imaging Matrix (Tim) technology as well as a
large 70-centimetre bore for improved patient comfort. Along with significantly higher resolution,
scan times and patient throughput compared to standard MRIs, the Verio is another valued addition to
this practice which now has a total of six Siemens MRI scanners.
Siemens in Western Australia 11

Healthcare continued

After replacing three older Siemens laboratories with the new Artis zee angiography technology,
AXIOM Sensis XP haemodynamic monitoring systems and the syngo Dynamics imaging systems, the
Royal Perth Hospital’s three laboratories are now fully integrated in what is the southern hemisphere’s
largest Siemens cardiac catheter laboratory set up. The Siemens technologies used in this laboratory
allows the hospital’s existing haemodynamic data to be migrated into one monitoring system which is
connected to all laboratories through the image archive system. Siemens also supplied CCTV systems
to allow cases to be observed remotely for teaching and monitoring purposes.

Siemens executed a whole practice fit-out for Envison Medical Imaging (EMI), a leading provider of CT
coronary angiograms in Australia with a special interest in cardiac imaging. The fit-out included a
Siemens MAGNETOM Espree 1.5T MRI scanner, SOMATOM Definition dual source CT scanner, Symbia

superiority without jeopardising the quality and safety of products,
people, machinery and environments.

Success stories include:

Siemens automation equipment was used to accurately monitor and control plant and equipment at
Perth 1 Desalination Plant at Kwinana. The equipment, designed to produce high-quality desalinated
water, incorporates the Simatic PCS7 control system and Profibus. This provides a high degree of
integration and performance benefits and is able to greatly reduce the enormous quantity of copper
cabling and connections normally required for a plant of this scale. The amount of copper cabling has
been reduced by using intelligent communications and fibre-optic cable. Much less cable in the plant
results in lower capital costs and improved reliability. Using a combination of leading-edge software,
hardware and diagnostics enables plant operators to predict maintenance needs more efficiently.
With the availability of increased accuracy and expanded diagnostic information, the plant has a
reduced risk of downtime. Siemens also supplied medium voltage motors and variable speed drives
to operate the plant’s pumps.

After completion, the plant was the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the third
largest of its kind in the world. It is powered by renewable energy supplied by the Emu Downs Wind
Farm near Cervantes on the West Australian coast.

Perth-based Austal Ships has chosen Siemens for their control and monitoring system on the US
Navy’s new Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV). The JHSV is a joint effort between the Army and Navy to
acquire high-speed vessels for fast transportation of troops, military vehicles and equipment. Austal
Ships, the world’s leading builder of high speed catamarans, has been diversifying into the naval
market in the US and historically used Schneider for many years on their commercial builds.

They chose the Siemens PCS7 due to its proven performance in naval surface and submarine
installations globally and within the United States (US). Siemens activity in naval and commercial
marine solutions is extensive and includes our Anzac Frigates and future Landing Helicopter Dock
(LHD) ships. The present build forecast is for the JHSV is 10 to18 vessels with final installation and
commissioning to be completed in Alabama in the US. Austal is also a leading contender for the new
Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) for the US Navy.

Productivity continued

Siemens, working closely with ICM Group at Rio Tinto’s Paraburdoo mine site developed
instrumentation, automation and drive solutions for the Paraburdoo Fines Plant. The nature of the
project was to optimise output of the plant. Outstanding success was achieved with the cooperation
of all concerned.

Siemens continue to supply variable speed drives to the mining industry to operate rail car dumper
and train positioner systems. These systems increase productivity and are used to position and empty
rail cars full of mine extract such as iron ore, and control the movement and speed of the unloading
process. Siemens supplied the drives to Metso who are the single supplier of car dumpers for
customers such as BHP, Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals.

The Western Australian Mechanical Drives team has successfully delivered the BHPIO Rapid Growth
expansion projects MAC, PACE, RGP2, RGP3 and RGP4 in the Pilbara region dating back to 2002.
These include in excess of 200 drives rated up to 1250 kW.

BHP Iron Ore committed to Siemens thanks to the quality and zero failure rate of FLENDER gear units.
These units have provided the client an excellent return on investment with less downtime, assisting
them to standardise their conveyor design while rationalising the amount of spare parts they need to
keep on site.

Safety

Assurance
Assuring the safety of Australia and New Zealand’s people, equipment
and environment is the driving force behind our safety solutions.
For manufacturing plants, we offer fail-safe solutions for
communication, controllers, sensors and drives that enhance safe
practices across the entire plant. We also offer innovative safety
solutions for facilities such as fire protection, as well as transportation.

Success stories include:

BGC Australia Pty Ltd has built new brickworks in Kalamunda WA. This project had equipment
requirements from several Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and some equipment required
solutions to ensure the combined safety of personnel and equipment. Usually two separate control
systems would need to be installed, one to maintain the safety and the other to handle machine
functionality. This would have had a two-fold impact on the cost of the project with two networks
and two control systems requiring installation and maintenance.

After the company was shown the benefits of the Siemens safety platform, they opted for our
controllers to be used across all equipment. By using the Siemens Safety S7 Programmable Logic
Controller (PLC) the customer was able to maintain safety and machine functionality while using the
one system. The control system for safety uses the same software and hardware platform as standard
controllers with added functional safety. This not only reduces engineering, installation and
commissioning time but also minimises the amount of training required for maintenance staff.

Siemens Profinet was chosen as the communications platform. Profinet allows a single network for
automation and safety tasks. Because Profinet is an Ethernet network it has the advantages of higher
bandwidth and more flexible topologies compared with traditional industrial networks. Profinet is
also fully certified for wireless safety which has been used at BGC to incorporate safety on crane
applications.

Following an extensive six-month investigation of Motor Control Centres (MCCs) safety compliance,
the Water Corporation of Western Australia selected Siemens Sivacon low voltage MCCs. Sivacon
provides industry leading arc fault containment protection in case of electrical faults, thereby
reducing the potential for personal injury during switching operations.

the most protection from a security perspective.

Success stories include:

Woodside Petroleum contracted Siemens for a security solution at their headquarters in Perth. The
access control system comprised of an integrated Siemens SiPass solution with a high level of
integration to a CCTV surveillance system. This system encompasses the whole building and has in
excess of 160 SiPass proximity card readers deployed across various controlled access points including
a high level interface to the building elevator control system. The CCTV solution incorporated several
digital video recorders with fixed or Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras providing surveillance which is
monitored in a high technology control room.

Rio Tinto, a world leader in mining has many remote locations in Western Australia that are
connected via the company’s Wide Area Network (WAN) to their SAP system. The company needed a
security control system for these remote sites which include Cape Lambert, Dampier, Pannawonica,
Tom Price, Marandoo, Yandi and Brockman. Rio Tinto and Siemens jointly developed a system using
SAP and Siemens SiPass, an extremely powerful and flexible access control system that provides a
high level of security without compromising convenience and ease of access for the system user.

More than 2,500 access groups were defined in SiPass and managed by the SiPass HR and SAP
interface. This intelligent application creates and deletes the required access groups efficiently and
applies this access to card holders automatically.

Over 110 SiPass proximity card readers now control access to mine sites, stores and administration
areas. Since the system was deployed, the company has issued more than 50,000 access cards to
employees and selected contractors.

The Perth Convention Exhibition Centre was built by Multiplex, with the support of the West
Australian Government. Siemens provided the centre’s access control system which comprised an
integrated Siemens SiPass solution. The solution offers a high level of integration to a CCTV
surveillance system which extends to all parts of the building including conference rooms and
exhibition halls.

The CCTV solution comprises of various Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) and fixed cameras strategically located to
provide surveillance of all entry and sensitive locations throughout the premises. Access control
proximity readers have been installed to control over 90 access doors with event monitoring
functionality provided by a high level integration to the CCTV system. All internal and external areas
are monitored 24 hours a day, every day of the week from a central control room.

Siemens tomorrow…

Clean energy
Zero emission coal-fired power plants – technology to develop Integrated Gasification Combined
Cycle power plants, when coal is converted to gas to be burnt in a gas turbine, allowing pollutants to
be separated before combustion begins. The opportunity exists to upgrade existing plants or build
new ones, the economics of the technology may be driven somewhat by the regulatory environment
where carbon taxes could make this technology more desirable sooner.

Integrated transportation
Integrated traffic management – integrating motor vehicle traffic and public transport using
GPS location positioning and identification technology in conjunction with mobile radio and
geographical information to help prevent traffic jams. Use existing infrastructure and transport
systems more efficiently – combine information on urban traffic, parking conditions, transport
services, construction sites and special events.

Digital health
E-health is becoming a reality as we are seeing routine and widescale deployment of medical
information technology solutions, enabling the creation of an electronic patient record (EPR).
The EPR provides healthcare professionals access to critical medical data faster, thus improving
patient outcomes by reducing the time from diagnosis to the prescription of treatment. E-Health
is especially significant to Australia, with its vast remote and inaccessible regions, as it negates
geographic boundaries that previously limited speedy diagnosis to city patients. E-health is enabling
a paradigm shift in the way patients of the future will be treated by shifting hospital care to home
care. This can be achieved through broadband communications networks, standardising computer
assisted diagnosis via world leading imaging technologies, enabling inter-connectivity of healthcare
providers and smart card access to medical records and by delivering all of those services using
intelligent networks.

Pure water
Waste water purification and nano pore ultra filtration – the increased reuse of water immediately
after treatment requires the development of satellite water filtration plants at the source of the
demand for water, such as golf courses and farms. These satellite plants emit no odours and can be
designed to blend with an urban environment. Purification and sterilisation technology is being
developed using membrane pores which have the diameter of 15 nanometres – this technology
can be used for drinking water or in larger quantities for industrial uses like power stations.
