COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course, with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) as its foundation, will teach
students to develop and design responsive web sites through coding, testing, debugging and implementation of web-
based services. This course will also allow students to learn about content management systems, client side languages,
server side languages, and database concepts. The course is designed to give students foundational knowledge of "front-
end" and "back-end" development to address the presentation and data access layers of web site development.

Web Development is the third course in the Web Development pathway. Students enrolled in this course should have
successfully completed Introduction to Digital Technology and Computer Science Principles. After mastery of the
standards in this course, students should be prepared to earn an industry-recognized credential in this career area.

This course will also prepare students for the following End of Pathway Assessments:
CIW Associate Design Specialist Certification
Comprised of two exams:
1. CIW Site Development Associate: Exam 1D0-51B
2. CIW Web Design Specialist (formerly CIW Site Designer) Exam 1D0-520
A student must successfully pass both exams to become a certified CIW Associate Design Specialist.

Prerequisites: Introduction to Digital Technology AND Computer Science Principles or AP Computer Science Principles
are the prerequisite courses along with teacher approval.

EVALUATION AND GRADING
Students will be assessed in a variety of ways. This will include formative assessments (daily quizzes, brief progress checks, daily
class practice, journals, weekly article reviews, class work, rough drafts, and outlines of projects ), summative assessments (major
tests, major performance tasks, projects, presentations, essays and reports), professional development activities (joining FBLA and
participating in required activities or reading three business related novels over the course of the semester which includes a three
page minimum written report for each novel, and an oral presentation to the class) and a final exam.
