“ This is the day

the Lord has made

Let us rejoice in it
and be glad! ”
Psalm 118:24

Sept. 22, 2018

east Lansing, MI.
Dear sisters and
brothers in Christ,
It brings me great joy to gather with you today
to celebrate a central truth of our Faith, a truth
that can sometimes get “lost in the details” — that
God’s desire for each of us, for the whole world in
fact, is to be eternally happy with him forever in
heaven. My prayer is that you will come away from
this day renewed in your relationship with God and
recommitted to the journey to holiness and open to
the Holy Spirit who empowers us both to live the
Gospel and announce it to others.

We begin this morning with a 3.8-mile Eucharistic

procession from St. Mary Cathedral to the Breslin
Center in East Lansing. This is an opportunity for us
to witness to the world that we follow JESUS CHRIST,
not just on foot in a procession, but every day of our
lives through our thoughts, words and deeds. We
really believe that Jesus is Lord — Let him reign!

I pray that you are inspired by the lineup of speakers

this afternoon. I hope that you will also be inspired
by the unique experience of being surrounded
by thousands of other Catholics from our own
communities who are committed to following Christ
with their lives. I am confident you will find one or
more things from this day that will bring you closer
to God.

As we close this momentous day together with Mass

and hear the final words, “Go and Announce the
Gospel of the Lord,” I pray that those words will echo
in our hearts and enliven our spirits so that, renewed
and strengthened in our faith, we will reach out to
people whom we meet and share with
them the true happiness in Christ
for which they were made.

Yours in Christ,
Bishop Earl Boyea

O Sacrament Most Holy
O Jesus, we adore thee
Who in Your love divine,
Conceal Your mighty Godhead
In forms of bread and wine.

Refrain
O Sacrament most holy,
O Sacrament divine,
All praise and all thanksgiving
Be every moment thine!

O Jesus, we adore You,

Our Victim and our Priest,
Whose precious blood and body
Become our sacred feast.

O Jesus, we adore You,

Our Savior and our King,
And with the saints and angels
Our humble homage bring.

O Jesus, we adore You,

Come, live in us, we pray,
That all our thoughts and actions
Be Yours alone today.

O come, all you who labor

In sorrow and in pain;
Come, eat this bread from heaven,
Your peace and strength regain.

THE JOYFUL
MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY
The Joyful Mysteries are marked by the joy
radiating from the event of the Incarnation.
To meditate upon the joyful mysteries is to enter
into the ultimate causes and the deepest meaning
of Christian joy. It is to focus on the realism of the
mystery of the Incarnation and on the obscure
foreshadowing of the mystery of the saving
Passion. Mary leads us to discover the secret of
Christian joy, reminding us that Christianity is, first
and foremost, evangelization, “good news,” which
has as its heart and its whole content the person
of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, the one
Savior of the world.
- Pope John Paul II

1. The Annunciation
Mary learns from the Angel Gabriel that God
wishes her to be the mother of God and humbly
accepts. (LUKE 1:26-38)

2. The Visitation
Mary goes to visit her cousin Elizabeth and is
praised by her as “blessed among women.”
(LUKE 1:39-56)

3. The Nativity
Mary gives birth to Jesus in the stable at
Bethlehem. (LUKE 2:1-20)

4. The Presentation
Mary and Joseph present Jesus to His Heavenly
Father in the Temple of Jerusalem forty days after
His birth. (LUKE 2:22-39)

5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

After searching for three days, Mary and Joseph
find the twelve-year-old Jesus sitting in the Temple
discussing the law with the learned doctors.
(LUKE 2:42-52)

6
Immaculate Mary
Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing;
You reign now in splendor with Jesus our King.
Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

In heaven, the blessed your glory proclaim;

On earth we, your children, invoke your sweet name.
Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

We pray for the Church, our true Mother on earth,

And beg you to watch o’er the land of our birth.
Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

Let us pray...
Lord our God,
in this great sacrament
we come into the presence of Jesus Christ, your Son,
born of the Virgin Mary and crucified for our salvation.
May we who declare our faith in this fountain of love
and mercy drink from it the water of everlasting life.

Jesus My Lord,
My God, My all
Jesus my Lord, my God, my all
How can I love thee as I ought?
And how revere this wondrous gift
So far surpassing hope or thought?

Chorus:
Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore
Oh make us love Thee more and more
Oh make us love Thee more and more.

Had I but Mary’s sinless heart,

To love Thee with, my dearest King
Oh, with what bursts of fervent praise
Thy goodness Jesus, would I sing!

Ah, see within a creature’s hand

The vast Creator deigns to be.
Reposing, infant-like, as though,
On Joseph’s arms, on Mary’s knee.

Thy body, soul, and Godhead, all

O mystery of love divine,
I cannot compass all I have
For all thou hast and art are mine.

Sound, sound His praises higher still

And come, ye angels, to our aid.
‘Tis God, ‘tis God, the very God
Whose power both man and angels made.

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art

11
The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy
1. Make the Sign of the Cross
2. Optional Opening Prayers. You expired, Jesus, but the
source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of
mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life,
unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and
empty Yourself out upon us.
(Repeat three times)
O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of
Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
3. Our Father
4. Hail Mary
5. The Apostle’s Creed. I believe in God, the Father
almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy
Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended
into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the
Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living
and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic
Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
6. The Eternal Father. Eternal Father, I offer you the Body
and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son,
Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those
of the whole world.
7. On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us
and on the whole world.
8. Repeat for the remaining decades. Saying the “Eternal
Father” (6) on the “Our Father” bead and then 10 “For the
sake of His sorrowful Passion” (7) on the following “Hail
Mary” beads.
9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times)
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have
mercy on us and on the whole world.
10. Optional Closing Prayer. Eternal God, in whom mercy
is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that
in difficult moments we might not despair nor become
despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves
to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Our Lady of
Guadalupe
The Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe
displayed in the concourse is one of four images in
the world commissioned by the Basilica Shrine of
Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City to journey
as Missionary Images on a Mission in the New
Evangelization.

So, this image is rare, special and extraordinary!

Because of her special commissioning it has
traveled the world bringing many signs, wonders,
conversions, healings and graces. This image,
along with the other three, has manifested signs
such as detections of a heartbeat of an unborn
baby, confirmed by doctors and nurses with
stethoscopes. The joyful woman has been known
to shed tears of oil and holy glitter. God manifests
these signs at his pleasure and delights to give them
to help to strengthen our faith and our confidence
in the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared in Mexico as the

pregnant Mother of God to Saint Juan Diego, a
Chichimeca Indian, on December 12, 1531. She left
a miraculous image of her appearance on his tilma
(a cloak), which still exists today for all to see in
the Basilica Shrine in Mexico City. The Missionary
Images measure 4’ x 6’ and are the exact size and
color replicas of the original miraculous image.

Eucharistic
Miracles
Throughout Christian history, our Lord has
shown us that he is really present in the Blessed
Sacrament. Interestingly, many Eucharistic miracles
have taken place as a result of someone doubting
the Real Presence. The pictures that are displayed
on the columns around the concourse come to us
courtesy of the Real Presence Eucharistic Presence
and Adoration Association.

We are highlighting almost 50 of the Eucharistic

miracles that have happened all over the world
through many centuries. All of them have received
full approval by the Church.

Most Eucharistic miracles involve incidents in

which the Host has “turned into human flesh and
blood.” Of course, we, as Catholics, believe that
the consecrated Host IS the Body, Blood, Soul,
and Divinity of our Lord, under the appearances of
bread and wine. Therefore, Jesus, through these
miracles, miraculously manifests His Presence in a
more tangible way.
Reliquary
There is a display of relics from several different
saints including St. John Paul II, St. Thèrése of
Lisieux, and many others. This display was made
possible through the generosity of a personal
collector of sacred relics. You are invited to take
some time today to venerate these holy relics.
Shroud of Turin
The Shroud of Turin has long
been venerated by the faithful and is
believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus of
Nazareth. The Shroud is one of the most scientifically
studied religious icons in history. As science has
progressed, so has the speculation on how the image
of the crucified man of the Shroud was made.

The exhibit presents the results of a comprehensive

scientific, historical and forensic study with numerous
photographs and illustrations. The exhibit is the work
of The Center for the Study of the Passion of Christ
and the Holy Shroud and Monsignor Giulio Ricci
and other scientists, who spent more than 25 years
researching the Holy Shroud.

The centerpiece of the exhibit is a full-length replica

of the Shroud developed from a photographic image
of the Shroud made by the Eastman Kodak Co. The
replica shows the front and back of the shroud. In
addition, the mobile exhibit contains a depiction of a
large crucified corpus showing the wounds of Christ
corresponding to the passion narrative in the Gospel
accounts and the wounds shown on the Shroud. The
exhibit contains 92 panels detailing the history and
science of the Shroud.
Holy SacrifIce
of the Mass
This Mass fulFIlls your Sunday
obligation AND a PLENARY INDULGENCE
is available to you!
At the end of Mass, Bishop Boyea will administer
a papal blessing, which comes with a plenary
indulgence. The Apostolic Blessing, or papal
blessing, is a blessing imparted by the pope either
directly or by delegation through others. A bishop is
empowered to impart the Apostolic Blessing three
times a year within his own diocese in the context
of a solemn liturgical celebration designated by the
bishop himself. The blessing is imparted in place
of the usual blessing at the end of Mass, using a
formula that invokes the intercession of the blessed
apostles, Peter and Paul.

A plenary indulgence is available to those who

fulfill the following conditions:
1. Sacramental Confession within 20 days of the
Apostolic Blessing.
2. Reception of Communion.
3. Pray for the intentions of the pope.
4. Freedom from attachment to sin.
It is granted also to those who are unable to be
present at the rite itself and who instead follow it
piously by live transmission over radio, television, or
other means of social communication.
