4010ES Overview
Why are we replacing the 4010?
 The current 4010 panel has been losing its competitive edge in the marketplace
over the last several years.
 Some competitors’ panels have surpassed the 4010 panel features in many
areas.
• Point Capacity
• Raw Power – Base Panel is 4A
• Software Features
• Network Capability – Cannot take in points on the network.
• Ethernet Connectivity
 The current 4010 is also difficult to add new features into
• Not enough Memory
• Limited expansion space

2
Fire Systems Training

4010ES Overview
The Replacement Plan

 Redesign Current 4010 and use the same core as the 4100ES
 All current features on the 4100ES are also now in the 4010ES (where
applicable)
 Bug fixes on the 4100ES are automatically fixed in the 4010ES code (same
code base)
 New features built into the 4100ES may be easily added to the 4010ES with
very low R&D effort, market requirements will dictate which features are
ported over.
 Use the ES panel programmer
• ability to import an existing 4010 job and uses card and point data to
create a 4010ES job from it. User list, pseudos, custom control and site
information will be lost in the upgrade (demo at the end).
 Leverage the vast amount of 4100ES optional features to provide features on
the 4010ES (IDNet, RUI, 4100 COMMs)
 Cost reduce as much as possible to keep the 4010ES at a mid-range panel price

4010ES Overview
Mechanical Approach
 Use the same back-boxes (with some mods) and door as the 4100ES one
and two bay models.
 Same look and feel as 4100ES (brand recognition, common family look)
• Platinum and Red Colors
 Customers who grow out of the 4010ES Capabilities can easily upgrade
to the 4100ES (wall space is the same)
 Replace current dead front (a.k.a. retainer) with hinged design
 Easier to service
 Can mount hardware on dead front
• More option card space in the back-box
• Side rails not required for UI (cost savings)
 Eliminate sheet metal where we can (power supply, for example).

Software

76
Fire Systems Training

The old 4010 is a far distant relative of the 4010ES –

There are no similarities

 Old 4010 software was totally abandoned. None of it was used for 4010ES.

 4010ES software is the same source code as the 4100ES.

 4010ES code will go through more than 9,500 Automated Tests prior to each
release.
 Increased usage = more field testing. Defects will be found and fixed sooner.
 A single code base is easier to maintain. One fix resolves 4100ES and
4010ES.
 Multiple Languages are now supported (carry over from 4100ES)

 A single bin file is downloaded into either a 4100ES or a 4010ES.

 There is nothing to prevent downloading 4100ES jobs into 4010ES panels and
vice versa. However, panel software will compare CPU card type and Job type.
If they do not align, the panel will crash with ‘Invalid CPU Type’ error.

77
Fire Systems Training

4010ES vs. 4100ES

 4010ES Differentiation:
 Limited to 20 addressable slaves and e-slaves.
 Limited to 10 RUI annunciators.
 Limit of 3 optional cards in CPU bay. If a 4x10 card is used, limit is 2
optional cards.
 Limited to 100 external network points. No limit on public network points.
 No Audio or Signal cards.
 Limited selection of Monitor, Relay, Annunciator, Interface, and Power
options (mostly due to form fit).
 Uses different LCD Annunciator than 4100ES or old 4010.
 New cards: MSSI, MSS, 4010IDNet+, 4010LCD, 48 LED Module.
 4010ES limited to the 2 loop IDNet+ on MSSI.
 International 4010ES allows up to 4 MX Loop or 4010IDNet+ cards (IDNet+
circuit on the MSSI counts against the limitation).

78
Fire Systems Training

4010ES vs. 4100ES (cont.)

 4010ES Noteworthy Similarities:

 No device restrictions on IDNet. All 4100ES IDNet devices are available on
4010ES (including Isolators Modules, Isolator Bases, Quickconnect 1 and
Quickconnect 2 devices..
 Full 4120 network capability (public and external points).
• Supports Global Ack
 Vesda availability.
 Computer port and TrueInsight compatible.
 InfoAlarm is available.

79
Fire Systems Training

4010 to 4010ES Upgrade

 Items that WILL NOT be translated to 4010ES:

 Custom Control.
 System Options and Access Levels.
 Network and Site Info.
 User List and User Pseudos.
 Class A Adaptor Card for NACs, Battery Meter Modules, and Expansion
Power Supply.
 DACT Programming
• The SDACT Programmer is not used to program the DACT, it is
programmed within the ES Programmer same as 4100U or 4100ES.
 Special case items:
 The Virtual NAC card (17) does not exist in the 4010ES. 4009A points will
be translated to points and sub points on the IDNet+ card. All 4009A points
will translate to SSIGNAL Point Type.

80
Fire Systems Training

4010 to 4010ES Upgrade (cont.)

 4010 IDNet device translation restrictions:

 LATSUPV for ION will not be translated.
 SUPVMON for ION will not be translated.
 LATSUPV for QSPHOTO will not be translated.
 SUPVMON for QSPHOTO will not be translated.
 SUPREL for RIAM will not be translated.
 SWATER for RIAM will not be translated.
 QRPHOTO will be translated to QSPHOTO on 4010ES.
 Labels for multi-point devices (e.g. 4009 points) may not appear in the 4010ES job.
 Devices at addresses 249 and 250 will not be translated as these addresses are reserved
for IDNet+ Isolators.

 Upgrade existing 4010 job.

 No need to export anything from old 4010 programmer.
 Select ‘Upgrade Legacy 4010’ under File menu item.

 All items that do not translate will be noted in the output as conversion
progresses.

ES Panel Programmer Demonstration

 ES Panel Programmer is used for both 4100ES and 4010ES.

 Uses the 4100U programmer dongle – A new dongle is not needed.

 Uses same default job directory – 4100UJobs.

 4010ES Job Types:

 4010ES – default job includes CPU and MSSI (with IDNet+).
 4010ES INT – default job includes CPU and MSS (no IDNet+).

 Card selection options:

 4010IDNet+, MX Loop, and 25 Volt Regulator only on 4010ES INT.

 Upgrade of old 4010 job.
