Memorandum on Threatening/Inciting Language on Campus:

To: UNLV Undergraduate Student Body

From: Christopher Roys, CSUN Student Government
CC: UNLV Administration, Nevada System of Higher Education

Dear Campus Community,

This week, an incident occurred on campus at the Lied Library where a note was found by members
of an NPHC Sorority on campus reading “Kill The Blacks.” While the note was anonymous and left
unattended, there were also reports of an individual making hostile gestures towards this group of
students.

The identity of the author of the note, nor the individual making hostile gestures (gun-pointing
movements), are not known. However, I will take this time to inform you what is known. It is known
that if you threaten students, faculty, staff, or any other individual on campus, especially on the basis
of their race/ethnicity, you are not welcome here and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the
law. Threats of violence and hate crimes are taken very seriously. I am not alone in this
zero-tolerance for such despicable acts. The University Administration, UNLV Police Services, and
our Faculty all support access to an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment for students of all
identities. Police Services and Administration are actively investigating the threat, but at this time, no
evidence has been found to suggest any danger to our campus community.

To the students that feel personally affected by this incident, we stand with you, and we support you
to the fullest extent. We are stronger together and we must not allow violent, threatening, or otherwise
hateful language go unchecked. We would also like to reaffirm your rights to attend UNLV without
concerns of violence or threats against you or anyone else. We have an obligation to help one
another, and to fight against racism and bigotry, because we are #RebelStrong. If you have any
information about this incident or information leading to identifying the individual in question, please
contact UNLV Police Services immediately.

In solidarity,
Christopher Roys, CSUN President
