Method Statement for Slotted Drain

GENERAL PREPARATION

1. Always check the material upon delivery. Check for damage and quantities against the delivery
order. Note any damages or shortage at the time of delivery.
2. All necessary material, equipment and machinery to be used shall be ready on site.

3. Setting out shall be carried out; level and alignment shall be check before the commencement of
excavation works.

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this method statement is to describe the estimation and methods which will be used to
carry out the installation of slotted drain from excavation to concreting of the structure up the dewing
level and outline the plans to be used.

Method Statement for Slotted Drain

1.0 Introduction
This method of statement is for cast in-situ slotted drain which consisting of excavation,
reinforcement, formwork, concreting, backfilling and all other related activity.

2.0 Scope
To describe the activities and methods, which shall be utilized to carry out the cast in-site slotted
drain work operation and to outline the resources needed for these operations?

6.0 METHODOLOGY

1. Prior to commence work, all necessary setting out to be carried out by the offset to the required
distance.

2. Supervisor will check the level and alignment of the trench excavation by using a bonning rod
referring to the string tied to the offset pegs which marks the excavation depth.

3. Excavation will be carried out by using an excavator or backhoe to excavated trench is then
spread and leveled manually; size of excavation will take into account the drain size and
working area.

4. 50mm thick of lean concrete GI0 blinding will then be cast and allowed to set.

5. Reinforcement for slotted drain base will be erected according to drawing with the starter bars
installed.

6. Formwork for the base will be set up subsequently with the construction joint
materials (e.g, water stop, cork filler etc.) placed in position. Spacer blocks will be tied in
between the outer steel bars and formworks at the same time.

7. Finishing level of the base slab will be marked and concrete G35 for base will be carried out and
allowed to set.

8. A reference string which marks the required level and alignment will be tied parallel to the excavated
trench prior to installation 750mm ~ 900mm diameter pipe culvert which described as permanent
formwork.

9. 750mm ~ 900mm diameter pipe culvert will be hoisted by excavator to the trench and adjust by
workers to the correct alignment and the level is checked before the sling is remove.

10. Second pipe culvert will be lowered to position and push by the excavator to join with the previously
laid culvert and the alignment and level is check again.

11. Reinforcement for the slotted drain walls will be erected after the base concrete and pipe culvert
work was done and the wall formwork will be erected at the sides of culverts to retain concrete
from spreading to the sides thereafter.

12. A final check will be performed to ensure all the temporary formwork and biking are properly
tightened and secured.

13. Concrete G40 surround will be cast until the culvert crown level and allowed to set.

14. Air compressor used to hack and making good to form up an opening of 100mm width on culvert
crown level to receive finish level drain flow channel.

15. Finishing level of the slab will be marked and concreting will be carried out and allowed to set.

16. The M.S. grating frame installed in position prior to concreting to slab

17. All formwork will be stripped off on the following day and the subsequent panel(s) will
be cast following the above sequence from (4) to (15).

18. Sealant for the construction joint between the panels will be applied.

19. Both sides of the slotted drain will be backfilling by mass concrete G20.

20. Finally surplus materials will be disposed from site.
