Glory of Mathapur the Abode of Goddess Renuka !!!

Mathapur or Matripura is divine abode of Goddess Renuka in Sahyadri Range of


Western Ghats, wrapped in thick greenary. Calm and serene environment makes the
place as
a destiny of spiritual walkers of Shakthi pantheon.The reference of Mahur can be
find in Devi Bhagavatham which proclaims the place as abode of Goddess Renuka.Mahur
is
one among the three and half shakthi peethas present in Maharashtra.The town houses
Goddess Renuka in two different idols one being called as Ekaveera and other Renuka
herself. It is believed that Ekaveera is none other than Renuka in the form of
Kundalini Shakthi. Placed on a Yoni peet Ekaveera temple is the first halt for
visitors.
Goddess here glows in Red glorifying her radiance. Ekaveera temple is claimed to be
as one among the 18 shakthi peethas as mentioned in a hymn by Jagadguru
Shankaracharya
which praises her as "Maahuryaam Ekaveeryaka". It is known that the right shoulder
of Goddess Sati had fallen here.

A part from all these Mahur is the place where the final rites of Jamadhagni and
Renuka becoming Sati was happened here in the presence of Lord Dattathreya . It is
the
place where divine Dialogue named Tripura Rahasya was happened. Lord Dattathreya
has preached Sri Vidya one among the Dasa Mahavidyas to Lord Parashuram whose
disciples
encapsulated all the content in the form of ParashuRama Kalpa Suthra. Lord
Parashuram got cleared from the sin of slaying Kshathriyas by taking a holy dip in
Maathrukund
built by him at this place.Goddess Renuka on Hill top was self manifested. The idol
here is only head part which is huge and smeared with Vermilion signifying her as
the
source of enlightening. As parashuram's soul got enlightened in the presence of her
place is called land of austerities and salvation. As a part of tradition devi
here
is offerred Thaambool made of Beetel leaves and other materials. Offering here is
treated holy that fulfills all desires of Devotee. Chaithra Pournami, Kartheeka
Pournami,
Navrathri are given high importnce in the worship of Goddess Renuka.
