1. Purpose of the study
 Theoretical investigation on rotating group
and angled piston bore
 Method to enlarge the displacement or
increase the power density

4 4
2. Why angle cylinder block
 PV value for valve plate and cylinder block
interface is lower at the same speed

5 5
2. Why angle cylinder block
 Better filling with the same speed

Fc—Centrifugal force
Fc1– Component force
along with piston
Fc2– Component force
perpendicular to piston axis

Fc changes based on running speed!

2. Why angle cylinder block
 More material available in the block hub
area to make the design more robust

7 7
2. Why angle cylinder block
 Larger displacement

3. Challenges
 More complex force calculation
 Dynamic simulation
 Higher cylinder block tipping moment
 Dynamic simulation
 Spherical interface with valve plate

3. Challenges
 Complex machining process
 Turning milling machining center for piston
bore
 Bushing press in at specific angle
 Larger slipper and piston joint angle α
 Need optimize geometry design in increasing
the joint strength especially for HPOC
application

4. How the displacement is calculated
 Angled Cylinder Bore
 Outer dead point diameter (2r, from C to F)
 Piston diameter (d)
 Cylinder block bore angle (β)
 Swash plate angle (γ)
 Piston numbers (z)

4. How the displacement calculated
 Angled Cylinder Bore

The axial offset from the swash plate center of rotation to the
line of piston balls is constant during swash plate movement

4. How the displacement calculated
 Angled Cylinder Bore
 Outer dead point diameter (2r, from C to F)
 Piston diameter
 Cylinder block bore angle
 Swash plate angle
 Piston numbers

Through the derivation to transfer outer dead point diameter 2r to the

distance from O to K ( called coordinate of swash plate rotating center)
and K to M (named as axial offset) which are easier to get without any
3D creation.

4. How the displacement calculated
 Design Parameters
 Piston numbers
 Piston diameter
 Cylinder block bore angle
 Swash plate angle
 Axial offset
 Coordinate of swash plate rotating center
