he FibreFest Shawl 2018 has been
designed specifically for FibreFest
2018 and commissioned by the
Knitters Guild NSW. The concept is to
have a great base pattern for a shawl
and encourage knitters to show off their
creativity in the colours and yarns used.
This is a boomerang shawl featuring
panels of garter stitch stripes and eyelets
separated by sections of diamond lace.
The FibreFest 2018 Shawl is designed
for fingering (4ply) yarn and is very
adjustable. There are two versions
specified in the pattern, with two lace
finishing options to choose from. Please
refer to the Notes section of the pattern
as well as Ravelry projects for more
inspiration for your project.
We would love for you to join us and
to show off your FibreFest Shawl at
FibreFest 2018 and have your photo
taken to mark the occasion.
The Guild Retail Members are ready to
help you with your yarn choices for the
FibreFest 2018 Shawl. Some of them
have even put together kits for your
convenience. We encourage all members
to support our Retail Members and talk
to them about yarn choices.
FibreFest 2018 is shaping up to be a truly
memorable event.
Saturday, 27 October 2018 will be a day
of workshops and learning. The final
touches to the program are still being
developed, but we hope to have a wide
range of workshops on offer.
Sunday, 28 October 2018 will be the
retail experience we all love. We have
more retailers than last year to inspire,
encourage and even enlighten you.
For those of you intending to stay on the
Saturday night, there will be a Knit Night
organised at one of the local pubs with
great company and great food on offer.

Dominique Trad was enthusiastically
selected to be the first designer of a
FibreFest Shawl after she showed the
Guild Executive her concept.
Dominique is a member of the Blue
Mountains Group and an experienced
designer of shawls, cowls, garments and
accessories.
Dominique loves natural fibres and
beautiful colours and playing with ways
to enjoy using them.
On behalf of the Guild Executive, I am
very grateful to Dominique for creating
such a beautiful design that I know
members will enjoy knitting and making
it their own.
Dominique has been a joy to work with

Version A (Six diamond panels and MC final lace):
MC (speckled): 360m/394yd of fingering weight (4ply) yarn (I
used 96g Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles at 366m/400yd per
100g/3.5oz col. Urchin).
CC (semi-solid): 400m/437yd of fingering weight (4ply) yarn (I
used 106g Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles at 366m/400yd per
100g/3.5oz col. Purple Reign).
Yarn
Version B (5 diamond panels and CC final lace):
MC (light greys): 225m/246yd of fingering weight (4ply) (I used
Adagio Mills 4ply at 160m/175yd per 50g/1.76oz col. Clouds -
38g, Sonata - 28g).
CC (dark greys: 440m/481yd of fingering weight (4ply) (I used
Adagio Mills 4ply at 160m/175yd per 50g/1.76oz col. Concerto -
42g, Stormy Grey - 46g, Forte - 46g).

Needles & Notions

Pair of 4mm (US 6). I like to use an 80cm/31.5” circular needle set but straight are fine also. 1 stitch marker (optional).

Tension/Gauge
21 sts x 32 rows to 10cm (4”) over garter stitch after blocking on 4mm (US 6) needles (Version A).

Finished Measurements
Version A (Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles): 66cm (26”) deep at centre x 250cm (98.5”) wide along top edge x 123cm (48.5”)
along cast off edge (blocked).
Version B (Adagio Mills 4ply): 55cm (21.5”) deep at centre x 233cm (92”) wide along top edge x 120cm (47”) along cast off edge
(blocked).

Notes Abbreviations
1. RS rows are odd numbered and WS rows are even- K = Knit.

Cast off
Cast off in picot on WS as follows: (Cast on 3 sts and place on
left hand needle, cast off 5 sts = 1 stitch on right hand needle,
slip that stitch back onto left hand needle) repeat to end. Cast
on 3 sts, cast off 3 sts. Fasten off.
Finishing
Sew in all ends.
This shawl benefits from aggressive blocking. I soaked well and
gently pressed excess water out. I then threaded the longest
picots (where the KyoK was worked) onto a blocking wire
(there will be three short picots between each long one) and
secured into place (you can use pins if you wish).
Then I took my cast-on tip and pulled the shawl into shape
(it should not be vertical from the cast-off edge but rather 45
degrees to the right) spreading the 2 remaining unpinned
edges as I went and securing them with pins. You will know it’s
correct if your lace stripes align. Allow to dry. Enjoy!
