Art is a form of media to express oneself. The various medias of art can pave a way for
the artist to express their ideas for others to view or kept to themselves. It is a form of
communication that can connect with others universally. The artworks can invoke responses via
speculations and emotions from the audiences. The idea of art varies from person to person but it
is surely a subject that connects humanity with one another through impressions and familiar or
similar feelings.
The Persistence of Memory, by Salvador Dalí in 1931, is an art piece that conveyed an
eccentric feel. The oddity of the painting proposed multiple theories on its meaning since
Salvador Dalí did not state the interpretation of his artwork. The striking images in the painting
showcases melting clocks against a desert. It enables a dream-like state upon viewing the scenery
due to its hallucinatory landscape. When viewing this piece, it came down to whether this is a
psychoanalysis piece on dreams, a memory from his own dream, or a mixture of both.
In absence of Salvador Dalí interpretation, it allowed people around the globe to come
together, analyze, and express their own theories. This form a relationship from the artwork to
the audience. Alike to the setting in his painting, dream-like, there are no conclusive answers to
the purpose behind it. This observation connects to the idea that art is a media that permits
human beings to come together, whether with similar feelings and opinions or just the need to
interact.
The definition of art and what is labeled as art may differ on the being but it remains a
topic that allows others to connect and interact. Art created its own category for different ideas to
come and grow, expanding in multiple directions. There are no conclusive right or wrong

answers to another person’s opinion since it is their own. Opening oneself to another’s opinion
creates a space for another being to come and infer about the topic, cultivating one’s ability to
see notions in a different setting. Comparable to a dream-like state, ideas are not cemented.
