Sudlersville United Methodist Charge October 2018

“Jesus is Lord”

1 Corinthians 8:6
For us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and
one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

In the scriptures we are told that Jesus Christ is Lord over all creation and we exist only
because of him. Romans 10:9 says that if we confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, we will be
saved. What does it mean to confess that Jesus is Lord? Well, for me it means that Jesus’s
will and purpose for my life is more important than anything else. When I recognized that God
was calling me into ministry, I changed my college plans. I was willing to leave my family and
the farm behind to go where Christ was leading me. I took vows of contentment that I would
be grateful no matter my financial situation. As a pastor in the United Methodist Church I am
willing to go wherever the bishop sends me. If I live like Jesus is Lord, I completely entrust my
life to Christ, believing that he knows what is best for me.
Are you proclaiming that Jesus is Lord with your life? This is challenging for us,
because we have our own plans. We have our own goals. We have our busy lives that we fill
with all kinds of worldly stuff. Is giving an hour on a Sunday morning sufficient to show that
your life is wholly devoted to Christ? Jesus, the author of all creation and Lord of the universe,
who created each of us with a purpose and a plan; are you living according to his plan for your
life? Or do you find yourself serving another master – worldly success, money, career, sports,
the American dream, or politics? Are you on your knees daily asking for the Lord to give you
direction? Are you in the scriptures everyday seeking to be corrected and directed by the
Lord? Are you examining your life every day to see the areas of your life that you are keeping
for yourself and haven’t yet submitted to Jesus Christ? Maybe you’ve convinced yourself you
are working for the Lord, when you’ve never really asked the Lord. Maybe you’ve convinced
yourself that you are doing what is right, when you’ve never asked Jesus if he thinks you are
doing what is right. I want to encourage you that Jesus Christ has a plan for you that will be
more fulfilling and purposeful than any worldly success but first, you must proclaim with your
life that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Calvary-Asbury Trunk or Treat

Time for Trunk or Treat Preparations!

Trunk or Treat night takes place on October 31st from 6-8pm.
The Women’s ministry would like to encourage everyone to participate, in some
way, for this event that brings our community right to our doors. This is a
chance to interact with our local families and share the love of Christ.

Our community is now used to coming, with their trick-or-treaters, to our

parking lot for food and treats. We provide a safe and fun area for them.
We also give away small items with messages about Christ’s love to each child.

Indoor and outdoor participation would be great! If it’s too cold outside for you,
you can set up a spot inside to give away treats. While costumes and
decorations are fun for the kids, they are not mandatory. Smiles, kind words
and treats are all you really need. You may also want to consider pairing up
with someone else and having fun together while participating in this event.

We also need a refreshment team to prepare our hog dogs, chili, hot chocolates,
etc. for this event.

If you are unable to be here that evening, donations of food or hot chocolate are
welcome.

There will be a sign-up sheet coming around during church soon. Thanks so
much for signing up to help, many hands make light work!

Blessings!
