DAN BLACKBURN

HILLMAN
TEACHER AND LEARNER

I am pleased to present my CV for consideration as a secondary teacher. I am an American citizen, and I

hold a Bachelor of Arts in History, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and I am certified to teach Social

Science grades 6 – 12.

My life and teaching experiences have allowed me to work and live in multiple international contexts.

Growing up outside of my birth country, I knew that I wanted to continue living internationally after university.

Following my graduation from the University of Colorado, I moved to Albania to create a sustainable, non-

profit climbing gym, Rock Tirana. Our mission was to create a community of climbers who set an example of

living that empowered people to courageously face the cruxes of life. I managed Rock Tirana for four years

and was responsible for all day to day operations, hiring and training of employees, and social media

development.

At Rock Tirana, we partnered with local schools to develop outdoor learning trips that aligned with their

curriculum goals. We also created an after school youth program designed to develop personal and life skills

that would help Albanian children be successful in the future. Following these experiences, I decided to

pursue a career in teaching. I began working first as a substitute teacher and later as an English teacher at

a local private school.

After Albania, I had the opportunity to move to Foshan, China to teach Humanities and Science for grades 7

and 8 at Citic Lake Bilingual International School (CBIS). I used a combination of the IMYC and MYP

curriculums. CBIS was a new school, and I enjoyed the opportunity to help shape the curriculum while

designing creative and engaging inquiry-based lessons.

In my current position at American Pacific International School (APIS) I teach MYP Individuals and Societies

for grades 7 - 9 and World History for grades 11 and 12. Last year I helped APIS achieve MYP certification.

This year I am responsible for furthering the integration of the ATL skills across the MYP and developing a

rigorous I&S continuum that aligns with our high school curriculum.

As I move forward, I would like to find a position that utilizes my strengths and knowledge while providing

opportunities to grow and develop as an educator. I would like to be part of a team that believes education

goes past the classroom and should inform all aspects of growth and development.

Respectfully Yours,

Dan Hillman
