Part-B (3x10=30)
11. A circular plate 3 meter diameter is submerged in water greatest and least depths are
below the surfaces being 2 meter and 1 meter respectively. Find: (i) the total pressure on
front face of the plate, and (ii) the position of centre of pressure.
(Or)
12. A solid cylinder of diameter 4.0 m has a height of 3 meters. Find the meta-centric height
of the cylinder when it is floating in water with its axis vertical. The sp. gr. Of the
cylinder = 0.6
13. A rectangular plane surface 3 m wide and 4 m deep lies in water in such a way that its
plane makes an angle of 30⁰ with the free surface of water. Determine the total pressure
force and position of centre of pressure, when the upper edge is 2 m below the free
surface.
(Or)
14. A block of wood of specific gravity 0.7m floats in water, determine the metacentric
height of the block if its size is 2m x 1m x 0.8m
15. A 25 cm diameter pipe carries oil of specific gravity 0.9 at a velocity of 3 m/s. at
another section the diameter is 20 cm. find the velocity at this section and also the mass
flow rate of oil
(Or)
16. A rectangular pontoon 10.0 m long, 7 m broad and 2.5 m deep weight 686.7 KN .It
carries on its upper deck an empty boiler of 5.0 m diameter weighing 588.6 KN. The
centre of gravity of the boiler and the pontoon are at their respective centre along a
vertical line. Find the meta-centric height. Weight density of sea water is 10.104KN/m3.
