AppSmiths Technologies

Solving your toughest production challenges.

Building on our industry-respected, legacy gas-lift

optimization solutions and domain knowledge,
AppSmiths brings a customer-centric approach and
innovative technologies and services to meet your
toughest production challenges.

Proven hardware and digital solutions.

What We Can Do For You

We begin with the history and current well data so that our production solutions are matched
very specifically to the task at hand. AppSmiths’ expertise in enhancing well performance and
our meticulous petroleum engineering approach ensures the challenge is well understood before
a solution is recommended.

Lost production, inefficient systems, downtime due to intervention,

unrealized maximum recovery, and un-optimized performance are
just a few of the problems oil and gas operators encounter in daily
operations. Add to that list diminished staff expertise, a volatile
marketplace, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) concerns, and
a high cost of production in mature wells, and
you have a pretty clear picture of today’s working
environment. Operators need a trusted resource
to help them optimize performance in difficult and
traditional onshore and offshore operations.

You need a company with a track record of

success across the globe and the expertise
and cutting-edge tools and services to partner
with you and apply well analysis, surveillance,
and optimization solutions while delivering a
clear, accurate production insight and increased
efficiencies. And you need these solutions
delivered quickly, safely, and in a professional,
consultative manner.

Who We Are

AppSmiths has assembled a highly talented team of optimization and engineering specialists
whose depth of expertise and knowledge enable us to address hidden inefficiencies achieving
optimal control of your assets, enabling safer operations, and maximizing production.

In 1993, AppSmiths was founded in Houston to develop a gas-lift

design and optimization software tool for Shell Oil Company.
Five years later, this solution (WinGLUE®) became commercially
available outside of their primary client and was introduced to
the marketplace. The company’s petroleum engineering software
tools enable oil and gas operators and engineers to model,
analyze, design, and optimize an integrated production system.
Oil and gas companies globally have adopted the software and
many standardized on the technology.

Fast forward to today, other cutting-edge technologies have been

successfully commercialized with new technologies and research
and development as a top business strategy.

AppSmiths’ innovative digital and hardware tools, vast domain

knowledge, and focused approach to solving customer’s most
challenging production problems, have driven the success of the
company to date and will provide the power and focus to solve
tomorrows’ production challenges.

What’s New in WellTracer ? ®

The cost of inefficient gas-lift systems reach far beyond the

financial implications. Equipment replacement cost, deferred
production, and health and safety implications must be
measured also. The reward of implementing gas-lift surveillance
and optimization activities across the entire asset has been
recorded by different operators in the range of 5% to 35%
increase in oil rate, and total recovery increases by >5%.

Dual Wells

Dual-string completions are attractive

to oil and gas operators for many
reasons and offer significant commercial
advantages such as better well
economics and accelerated production
from multiple reservoirs.

When a dual-string well is gas-lifted,

the operator will sometimes face
additional operating complexities such
as: production rate drop; multipointing;
unstable casing head pressure; or a
“thief” string, robbing an inproportionate
amount of the lift gas.

An effective solution for dual wells

is AppSmiths’ WellTracer® analysis
survey to ensure the dual-string,
gas-lifted well is operating at its’ peak
efficiency. The WellTracer survey
allows operators to understand the
dynamic interaction between the
long-string and short-string.

Many industry well modelling software

tools only allow well modelling analysis
for one well string at a time. Used in
conjunction with the WellTracer
solution, WinGLUE® software is
specially designed to allow
simultaneous modelling for both
strings. Innovative workflows built-in
to the software, preserve the accuracy
of well modelling results for a better
gas-lift valve design and
optimized production.

Both WellTracer and WinGLUE have

been recognized by leading industry
organizations and major operators as
a recommended practice in dual-well
gas-lift surveillance and operations.

surveillance and optimization efforts to maintain
field production and production system efficiency.
What’s New in WinGLUE Software? ®

WinGLUE is the most advanced gas-lift analysis software package on the market today. Users can perform well
design, simulation, performance prediction, and field-wide optimization. Operators and engineers can search for
hidden inefficiencies, evaluate the impact of correcting problems, and design new wells or suggest improvements
for problem wells. You can optimize the distribution of lift gas for a single well or the entire field. Surveillance,
design, and troubleshooting with WinGLUE software contributes to a direct increase in profitability and/or
a decrease in operating cost.

What’s new in WinGLUE 7.0

Many improvements and new features have been made to version 7.0,
but perhaps one of the most requested and significant changes is the
ability to run multiple instances of WinGLUE concurrently. This enables
a side-by-side comparison of well analyses and configuration information
between different wells. This capability is highly advantageous when
performing dual-string well analysis or “what-if” design scenarios. We
have also increased connectivity for sharing data with colleagues and
have added cloud-capability features to the software.

Flowing Bottom Hole Pressure

While WinGLUE and WellTracer®

do not directly measure the flowing
bottom hole pressure (FBHP) like a
memory tool survey, WinGLUE
software does acurately calculate the
FBHP. WinGLUE uses this information
when evaluation the impact of
changing operating conditions or
the wells design. The production
engineer can also use this
information for other key calculations
and optimal well operation to ensure
maximum recovery.

IOT and the Digital Oilfield

AppSmiths Technology is working with other leading tech companies by bringing our vast domain
knowledge to aid the development of solutions for the oilfield of the future. By
developing embedded logic for devices, or working on cloud/server-based software
solutions that can interpret this vast amount of data, we help you do what you do—better.

For many, the current oil and gas business climate represents the optimum time to carve out
processes and deploy technologies which facilitate cost reductions and optimize efficiencies. A recent
study shows many forward-thinking operators are planning to increase investment
in operations-support applications followed by critical, data-integration solutions,
even in a down market.*

Solutions on the near horizon include everything from devices creating, sharing, and analyzing data;
to cloud- or server-based software performing intelligent alarming and exception-based reporting.
Tomorrow’s digital oilfield challenges will not be trying to get data, but rather, how to manage and
analyze the vast amounts of data collected.

AppSmiths Technology is actively evolving the areas of machine learning, cognitive computing, and
exception-based surveillance, as well as artificial intelligence tools to better meet challenges and
solve your production problems. AppSmiths is also partnering with customers and development
companies that are making the digital oilfield of tomorrow, a reality today.
