ECP SIMULATOR
THE ECP SIMULATOR CONSISTS OF :

1. Temperature / Pressure selector switch --


• Temperature range ( Left hand Side) - 70 to 100oC in 5 steps.
• Pressure Range ( Right hand side) - < 1 to 7 kg/cm2. in 5 steps.

2. RPM selector switch which has 6 options.

a. Option 1 - 5 - set of 5 different RPM - To check the RPM of the Engine. The
table of RPM display for Engines with various ring gear teeth is provided
on top of the Simulator.

B.Option No. 6 - Variable RPM to check the overspeed range of the Engine.

3. A set of cables for connecting the simulator to the Panel. ( 4 sets).

ECP SIMULATOR
To check the Coolant Temperature on the panel --
• NOTE : TO SIMULATE Coolant Temp. Fault on the ECP ---Disconnect the
Auto connectors from the Lub oil pressure sensor . Connect the Y connector
provided in the kit to the disconnected Auto connectors of the Engine
Harness , By doing so the ECP will indicate 2.8 kg/cm2 (approx) in the
pressure scan ( because initially there is no oil pressure on the engine as the
Engine is not running):
• Disconnect the connector from the Coolant temperature Sensor . Connect the
two wires from the Simulator ( marked as TEMPERATURE) to the
disconnected sensor harness :
• Stop the ECP scan on Coolant Temperature .
• Keep the Selector switch on 70oC . The display on the ECP should indicate
70oC.
• Go on incrementing the switch positions & check the display reading. All the
readings on the display should tally with the selected switch position.
• Select 97oC on the selector switch & the RED LED on the ECP should glow
indicating High Coolant temperature --
• When the above happens Supply to the shut down coil would have been
disconnected.
• Bring back the selector switch to 90oC - the RED LED on the Panel should
not Turn OFF.
The High coolant Temperature fault has tripped the Engine & will be reset only after
the Fault is cleared & the Key Switch is made off & On again.

To check the RPM on the Panel --

• Disconnect the connector from the Magnetic Pick up unit . Connect the two
wires from the tool ( marked as RPM ) to the disconnected MPU harness of
the Engine. Give 24 Volts supply to the Tool with correct polarity.
• Stop the ECP scan on RPM .
• Keep the Selector switch on 1st position , refer to the table given a top the
simulator. The ECP display should indicate the RPM indicated on the Table.
Please note that this RPM indication will be different for different set of gear
teeth.
• Go on incrementing the switch positions & check the display reading. All the
readings on the display should tally with the selected switch position & with
the table indicated below (WITH A TOLERANCE OF + / - 3 RPM).

ECP SIMULATOR
To check the Overspeed set point of the Panel --

• NOTE : TO SIMULATE Overspeed Fault on the ECP ---Disconnect the Auto


connectors from the Lub oil pressure sensor . Connect the Y connector
provided in the kit to the disconnected Auto connectors of the Engine
Harness , By doing so the ECP will indicate 2.8 kg/cm2 (approx) in the
pressure scan ( because initially there is no oil pressure on the engine as the
Engine is not running):
• To check at what speed the overspeed safety works -- Select the 6th position
on the RPM selector switch. Go on incrementing the variable RPM pot &
observe the Display indication - The overspeed RED LED on the Panel will
glow after 10 seconds the moment the display reading indicates 1650 RPM.
If this happens then the Overspeed safety is operating as desired.
• When the above happens Supply to the shut down coil would have been
disconnected.
• Bring back the variable RPM pot to 1500 - the RED LED on the Panel should
not Turn OFF.
Due to Engine Over speeding , the Panel has given a trip command to the engine. The
Over speed LED will turn off & the fault will be reset only after the Fault is cleared &
the Key Switch is made off & On again.
NOTE : Pleasesee that while checking the Overspeed safety of the
engine - None of the other faults are present. If any of the other fault
LED’s are glowing then this safety cannot be simulated.

To check the Lub-Oil Pressure on the Panel --

• Disconnect the Auto connectors from the Lub oil pressure sensor . Connect
the two wires from the tool ( marked as Pressure ) to the disconnected Auto
connectors of the Engine Harness :

• Stop the ECP scan on Lub Oil Pressure .

• Keep the Selector switch on < 1 Kg/Cm2 .The display on the ECP should
indicate the selected < 1 Kg/Cm2.

• Go on incrementing the switch positions & check the display reading. All the
readings on the display should tally with the selected switch position.
