@Steve Fisher My second partition says free space and it wont let me extend the first
partition. The option to do so is greyed out, I've tried closing management and reopening it but
that does nothing. Not sure if I should delete the partition or not? Also I think the free space
partition may be extended it has a dark green outline to it which is the same colour as extended
in the colour key. PLEASE HELP

I recently bought a SSD and did a fresh install of windows 7 on it. My old HD was partitioned into
C: (system) and D: (storage), I want to delete C: and extend the space to D: but disk management
did not allow it. The message I got: "The operation you selected will convert the selected basic
disk(s) to dynamic disk(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic, you will not be able to start
installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s) (except the current boot volume)." I
then clicked yes and got "There is not enough space on the disk(s) to complete this operation.
Can anyone assist with this issue? Thanks

it is because of type of partition was system managed space once I changed it to no page file. It

I have a question hopefully u can answer for me. Im wanting to install a new OS on my old
laptop, but I have alot of important files and such I dont want to lose and dont have anymore
space left on my portable hard drive cause of even more important things on that. So what I
want to do is partition my drive like u showed but I need about 100 GB partition. I tried but it
just wont work, so how u do this besides going out and buying a new hard drive which I dont
have money for? Thanx for any help

Nice...I had 300+ gb that became "unallocated" on my ssd. Somehow it removed itself from "C"
drive. I called Samsung to say WTF! and they said the only way to put it back in "C" drive was to
format the disc and re-install everything, including the OS. This looks like the easy way to do it,
Thanks!!

When i did this my disk became dynamic and in disk manager it is divided in two section: one
with size of my volume that i did extend and other with size of unallocated space i did extended
with. They merged but i didnt want my disk to become dynamic. I followed the instructions but it
doesnt came out as it shows in video.

Based on what I have read elsewhere, I assume that this only works when: (a) the two partitions
are directly adjacent to one another (i.e., there is no intervening partition), (b) the target
partition is to the "right" of the partition to be extended (as the partitions are depicted on the
screen), and (b) the target partition is in NTFS format.

So - If you got a C drive that is almost full- the hole disk is full, there are no allocated space to
use. Is it possible to add another disk, and let it work as part of the C drive?
I got my C drive on a 60GB SSD disk, and thought it would be big enoug. I have bought another
SSD disk with 128 GB. Mounted it as a NTFS share, and could try and move some of the data
from the C drive to the NTFS folder. Espicailly the APP Data Folder is full. There are 11 GB of data
there, that could be moved, Then If I add the folder to the path folder, then would it be possible
to drop the app data into that folder....

If this does not work for anyone use "diskpart" from the command line .
1) Open cmd prompt
2) diskpart
3) list disk
4) select disk x
5) list partition
6) select partition
7) delete partition x
Be careful not to delete the wrong disk and check you tube for examples if unsure. It helped me
to format a disk after pulling it out a linux box when the example here did not work.

real4o

+cerberu999 if u cant merge C and D just splite D, for example if ur D is 100GB, splite it to 80 and
20, then u will see D 20GB and E 80GB, then merge C and E. This is the only way with software.
80gb and 20gb its depend how much space u need to put in C. you can see my ENG is not good
but i hope u can understand what im trying to say. try this and tell me the result

Thanks Ever so much... Much Appreciated.
what if the c drive is on the right side

Sounds like you want to convert the volumes to dynamic disks and then you can extend the
volume across two hard drives. It will double you chance of loosing data though as if either hard
drive dies you will loose the whole volume.
Steve Fisher
To the people having problems extending the first partition do you have an extended partition
on the drive? If so the second partition will be inside the extended one so you first need to
delete the volume which is inside the extended partition and then delete the extended partition.
After doing that you should see you have unallocated disk space and the first partition will now
extend as shown in the video.
