What is Ethics?

By: Jovito R. Salonga

We all known that, “Ethics is the discipline dealing with right and wrong” but based
on Jovito R. Salonga’s statement, it is beyond reciprocity. Reciprocity, something like
the Golden Rules - “Do unto others what would like others do unto you”. As a person
who believes it, I do good to others so they’ll do good to me, if I want to gain respect,
I’ll respect others first so that they’ll respect me. Based on Mr. Salonga’s statement, “It
is beyond honesty and fairness, compassion and caring for people, especially those who
are in need, are among life’s highest ethical values. Mr. Salonga also know that,
“common sense tell us the things are right and wrong, it cannot be learn on any school
but you’ll learn by yourself. I have learned from what Mr. Salonga said, especially for
what he what to tell us. “Ethics has a spiritual a dimension.”, it is not enough to be
honest all the time but it is how you stand for what you believe for. You’ll stand for what
good you fight for even they’re not. Do good things even others don’t, because God sees
us. Ethics is the study of man as moral being, one who is rationally able to distinguish
between right and wrong, sometimes it examine our conscience over power us. I do
believe that those people who have done wrong things to others don’t have conscience
because they do it without hesitation, they do it without thinking what will be its effect to
others. Murderers, holdapers, and criminals are not the basis of being immoral but also
those people who committed cheating, lying, stealing other people’s property and
possessions, not helping others who ask for their help are also immoral. Doing nothing
wrong but also do nothing good is also being an unethical.

Nowadays, other people doesn’t do the Golden Rules, because they just want to be
respect even they don’t respect others, which there’s no ethical values at all. Lots of
people don’t know how to do good things to others, and they do wrong action towards to
their surroundings. Like what old people said, “Millennials are very unethical because
majority of them forget how to be good, they always do mistakes.” I am partly agree
with it but it doesn’t at all because there are still some us.

As catholic, ethics is very important to us. Morality should rule over power
immorality. Our society don’t accept immorality but still we believe that a bad person
can change into a good one. We fell good when we do such a good thing to others and
our conscience will eat us if we do wrong things. We are proud when we become a good
Samaritan at a time, and we are shy if we don’t. Honesty, equality, responsibility, always
on time, obedient, and hardworking are just among life’s ethical values can people have.
As my experience, I earned more than enough by serving my fellow Louisians as a
leader even without asking any return for it. I render my time serving my schoolmates
for being a good follower and leader, I followed and lead them, help them in any way I
know. I can say that I born being a leader because since then, I am one of them. I am not
perfect and expert in terms of leadership but I do believe that experience teach us how to
be a good one and I could say that I can. Being a role model is not easy because they’re
all watching us and wait for our actions, but for us it’s just our passion to inspire them.
We will help them in any way we know, we will help them without any hesitation and
doubts. My happiest moment was not when I received awards for serving my
schoolmates but when I gave inspirations to others to become a leader too. When I saw
her following what is good, leading and inspiring others was priceless. I am very proud
for all of her success because I am once her mentor. I will always by her side, supporting
for what she dream for. Seeing my friend participating in our school organizations and
clubs knowing that she can do it, I will always proud, and was the happiest in the world.
Helping others to change into better is also an ethical value.
