Take the children outside onto the oval. where they will be introduced.
Ask them to explore and count how many natural things God created.
Pose wonder questions about: Whistle

The amount: Was there a lot? Stop watch

What does this tell us about God and his abilities?
Humans: Did they include themselves?
Have them wonder about God’s ability to create human life and how he
was able to make every person like himself.
Humans: made in the image? Do we all look like Jesus? Look at the
person next you, do they look like you?
Discuss how image and likeness is referring to God’s spirit not his
physicality.
Return to the classroom.

Discuss that God gives life to us each day and we must not take our
bodies for granted. Discuss that God gave us all a purpose when he
created us, we can’t take this for granted either.
I wonder what God, who creates human life be like?

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

10 Going outside to look at the beauty of the things God has created for us.
minutes Do you think God has created these things for a particular purpose?
What is it? Can you see God in some of things he has created?

Think pair share- students seated on the mat and can discuss the White rose
questions in a pair or group of 3.

Teacher presents an item that reminds her of God’s presence. (I do)

I have chosen a white rose that I have growing in my backyard. This rose
reminds me of a relative that sadly passed away, it is white and pure
which is symbolic of this persons age. I wonder if you can guess how old
this person was if the rose is white?

The rose reminds me of God, which each petal that falls off it reminds me
that we are products of God, God (the rose) is sending us (the petals) to
do his work. I think of both Jesus and the relative that passed away
because even though they are both no longer physically with us, we are
always shown signs of their presence.

Does anyone have any questions?

Students are to return to their desks and bring back the item they brought
from home that is symbol of God to them.
20 Sharing of Item in small groups (you do)
minutes Anecdotal records
Much like I did, you will now be put into small groups and you will share
your item and discuss how God is present in that thing to you. There will
be some focus questions on the Smart board I would like each of you to Checklist
discuss with your group.
Focus questions on
smartboard
Focus Questions: Item for presentation (1 per
student)
 How does the item remind you of God?
 What experiences are around that item? Spare items in case
 Is God trying to communicate something with us by creating that
item? E.g. the Sun to be a source of light for those walking in the
dark.
 Do your members have any questions for you?

10 mins Students create a simple prayer thanking to God for the gift of life and
discuss how the item they brought reminds them of God.

Remind students to reflect on the item that they brought from home
reminds them to live out God’s work.

Students will be given the opportunity to do a gallery walk around the

classroom to look at the prayers their peers have created.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

Seat students back on the matt and conclude with a WINK (what I now
know)

What have you learnt about your peers’ ideas of God and where they see
them in their lives?

Were peoples items they see God in the same? Why?

Do you think God created these items to remind us of him and influence
us to live as he did?

Have the prayer of thanks created earlier copied on coloured card. Place
it on the display to remind students of the wonderful gift of life. Once a
week the student on prayer can select a prayer to read for Morning
prayer time. Have the student on prayer for the week select a prayer to
read before students go out to lunch.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

To transition to the next lesson where students will be heading to lunch,
remind students to consider the presence of God in the food they eat and
the things that surround them.
(Use different strategies for transitions and different scenarios)
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will they be
assessed?)
Did the students respond to seeing the things God created in real life at
the beginning of the lesson?
Observation of students contributions to the display, anecdotal records of
the statements of understanding (add to display)
Were the students able to identify the things that surround them are
representations of God and his work? Discussion, use of checklist to
assess
