SUMMARY

Challenge description 
Air Liquide is looking to contribute, in collaboration with the scientific community, to a more sustainable world 
through Essential Small Molecules. That’s why the​ #2018AirLiquideScientificChallenge​ is focused on 3 topics 
related to improving air quality for the people and fighting climate change for the planet. 
Air  Liquide,  invites  Participants  in  the  scientific  community  to  submit  proposals  (through  NineSigma)  to 
collaborate  with  Air  Liquide  to  develop  solutions  using  Essential  Small  Molecules  that  contribute  to  a  more 
sustainable world. 

Timeline 

● Submit your complete proposal(s) before ​September 20​th​ 5PM EDT

● Proposals will be analyzed between ​October and January
● The laureates will be announced in ​March 2019

Prize 
€ 50,000 in cash, and a funding of € 1.5 million to be shared among laureates in collaboration with Air Liquide, to 
mature the scientific proposals and transform them into innovative market technologies. 

Topics 

● Topic #01 Lower-CO​2 H​

​ 2​: ​How to produce cost competitive hydrogen while reducing greenhouse gas
emissions?

● Topic #02 H​2​ is coming: ​How to use H​2​ to avoid greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions in fossil
fuel based industrial processes?

● Topic #03 : Sustainable Farm to Fork: ​Can the dietary needs of 7.6 billion people in 2018 be met in an
affordable, healthy, and sustainable manner?

Submission 
Anyone  can  submit  proposals,  individually  or  in  team,  academics,  private  Research  &  Development,  startups, 
private or public institutes, entrepreneurs, etc. 

To participate you may: 

● Select one (or more) of the three topics and propose your solution(s)
● Read the t​ erms and conditions
● Create an account on the platform [ninesights.ninesigma.com]
● Apply based on the form provided online before September 20​th​.

Possible approaches 
Propose your solutions to improve air quality for the people and fight climate change for the planet through 
Essential Small Molecules.  

Some criteria 
To support their submission, Participants will submit a completed written solution template, highlighting the 
scientific approach and demonstration path retained to validate the feasibility of the proposed solution and its 
applications. Images and videos (with links if needed) can be part of the Proposal; they should be the 
Participants own creations and free of third-party intellectual property.
