Q.A. 1 Non-verbal of all the citizens

• All The other citizens seemed not concerned with the officer at first, this is what made

the officer feel disrespected.

• The other citizens watched the guard closely when one of the citizens told the officer that

she had no authority to move them away from the scene.

• The citizen make deliberate signals to the guard to make understand that she has gone to

make and that. That was not her role. However, the guard still went ahead and told the

citizens that they should not take pictures from the area, or else she would charge them.

She chose to ignore gestures shown to her, she didn’t respond to non-verbal

communication.

• The citizen also signaled silence they failed to communicate to the police officer, silence

is a strong non-verbal communication which should be watched vividly.

• Citizen showed that they were not happy with the guard as she did not introduce herself

to the citizen in the right manner, the ought

• Paralinguistic was another form of non-verbal communication used by the citizens. They

finally got into an argument with the guard and they show signs of cadence and groans of

frustration from the guard actions.

• After a tactical view from the citizen, they expected the guard to perform the job in a

corrective manner. They expected the guard introduce herself but this was not the case,

the guard choose to attack them a showed them that she was not whom they thought she

was, this was not appropriate.

Q.A 2 Conflict Management style used by the guard

• The guard used a competing style of conflict management she tried to tell them that she

was not whom they thought she was, she wanted to fit in police tactical model in which

she misused and found herself in danger.

• She wanted the citizens to follow what she said in a commanding manner without being

given excuses. In some instances, she raised her voice to signify orders and commands

that no pictures should be taken in that particular ground.

• She finally used accommodating style after she was defeated in a fight and a man

intruded to rescue her, the wanted to handcuff the lady they were finding with but she

was unable, this is what drove her to show accommodation.

• The guard was so authoritative and used compromise, she only wanted to be heard and

respected.

• The slides from 9-48 extensively provided information about non-verbal communication,

types of non-verbal communication from two parties are well explained.

• The non-verbal communication related to the guard-citizen scenario, how to successfully

address issues noted by guard/police to the citizen and to avoid issues that make create

violence.

• Designs and techniques to deal with such interrogation are provided, for instance, reading

the mind of the citizen and addressing their non-verbal cues verbally and politely in

empathy.

• Focusing on goals

The guard attempted to use this technique in the video but it was too late, the way she

approached spoiled everything. Cognitive was noted when she realized she did not

introduce herself, and she started stating her identity.

• Being aware of non-verbal behavior the guard never saw the first coming, she never kept

contact on facial and hands of the lady. She could have noted before and maybe use an

accommodating technique.

• The guard never let the lady run down and she never used the deflection method too.
