4th SEMESTER (BATCH 2016)
CE-208 FLUID MECHANICS
Maximum Duration: 2hrs Maximum Marks: 30
Course Instructor: Mr. Sumran Kumar
Instructions:
 Attempt any 2 questions.
 Do not write anything on question paper.
 All answers to be given on answer copy.

Q. No.1 (a): Define the following. (7.5 marks)

Specific Weight of Water Specific Gravity of Water
Surface Tension of Water Viscosity of water
Q. No.1 (b): Find the specific gravity of an oil whose specific weight is 10.1 KN/m3. Also find the specific
gravity of water. (7.5 marks)

Q. No.2 (a): What you know about simple manometer and differential manometer? Also define
Piezometer tube. (7.5 marks)
Q. No.2 (b): A differential manometer connected at the two points A and B at the same level in a pipe
containing an oil of specific gravity 0.9, shows a difference in mercury levels as 90mm.
Determine the difference in pressure at the two points. (7.5 marks)

Q. No.3 (a): Discuss hydrostatics and total pressure on a vertically immersed surface. (7.5 marks)
Q. No.3 (b): A circular door of 1 m diameter closes an opening in the vertical side of a bulkhead,
which retains sea water. If the centre of the opening is at a depth of 3 m from the water
level, determine the total pressure on the door. Take specific gravity of sea water as 1.04.
(7.5 marks)
