Copy todays topic and answer:
What do you think it means to be a good listener? Can you think of anyone in your lives you would consider a “good
listener”? What makes them a good listener? Can you think of anyone in your lives you would consider a “bad listener”?

Activity
Students follow a set of instructions read out to them by the teacher without looking at anyone else’s work.
- draw a layer of grass on the bottom of your page
- Draw a small and a large hill in the picture
- Draw a bird in the sky
- Draw a tree on the right hand side of the page
The students will see a set of different results due to different interpretations.
From these, they realize that understanding can be different for different people.
Exploration: Describe what hands-on/minds-on activities students will be doing.
Students will complete Frayer model on the word empathy. TW ask for additional examples or non-examples.
Student swill watch 3 video clips. Students will record sounds like and looks like for what it means to be a “bad
listener”. Class will discuss what they observed after every video clip.
Explanation: Describe how students will make sense of their exploration.
1. Class will discuss why it is important to be a “good listener” and to have empathy for other people.
Elaboration: Describe how students will develop a more sophisticated understanding.
Students have 3 options. They may either make a comic strip showing people, they may record a skit or
they can write a story. All option must show people listening with understanding and empathy.
Evaluation: Describe how students will demonstrate that they have achieved the lesson objective(s).
Exit Routine & Updating Binders with Homework
1. Clean up all materials around you, Put trash in can, Put papers back in binders
Homework: Describe how students will reinforce past learning and/or prepare for future learning.
Write 3-5 sentences: Would you consider yourself a “good listener”? Why or why not?
